OK,

I know everyone is hesitant to reveal their money-making ideas, and that's extremely understandable. I'm sure there are many folks in the same boat as I am, so here's my question. I want to sell on ebay. I'm not looking to make huge profit margins...I'd much rather go with a low-profit popular item. So, is buying bulk the best startup option? I know dropshipping is basically worthless, and I've looked at the liquidators. What is the best startup idea to get people like me going? Thanks in advance!

Well your vision has got you set on the right track. You wouldn't want to jump in head first with popular in demand items such as ipods and cellphones as everyone is trying to get their hands on these risky gadgets with scammers lurking in every corner, also you don't want to be just another crab in the bucket on eBay because you will just be wasting your time, and money. Try something less valuable but potential for profits, like something in relation to the high in demand item, like ipod or cellphone accessories. You won't be selling the actual item, but enhancements for a POPULAR product which you will still be able to profit from since you will be riding on its tail and profiting off its demand.

try to list some categories of items you are most interested in as a buyer or user, not a seller, and then narrow your selections through researching supply and demand, find a good dropshipper or wholesaler for the items that you think are going to sell well.. in my opinion the most important thing is to sell something you like and you know a lot about.. it makes it easy when you explain to your customers and answer questions and you'll put more effort into it than selling things you don't know even if they maybe have a bigger profit margin... hope that helps.

Think about items that people use all the time. Now find products that are new and innovative. People are always looking for decorations and other items to spiff up there house. Just some ideas.

You Can also think of things people use everyday. Simple things that are cheap to aquire wholesale but that everyone buys on a normal basis. Simple stuff like baby items, Diapers, Soaps and shampoos, clothes, Most of these things are cheap to aquire and if your not greedy with your profits can sell for you well.

Just a few more ideas to throw at you :D

I am new to wholesale and dropshipping but have been selling on Ebay a long time. I have tried many different types of items but always find the best profit in the most simple one........clothes. And they do not need to be new, there is a goldmine in used clothing.
I started by sifitng garage sales and Salvation Army. I was making a profit and contributing to a good organization! I made huge profits off anything labeled GAP, RALPH LAUREN, GIORGIO ARMANI, GEIGER, COLUMBIA COATS, etc. I found a GEIGER COLLECTIONS coat at a garage sale for $5.00 and sold it on Ebay for $168.00! The downside to this was that it took time and research to see what brand, what type of jeans, shirts, etc. But I actually have a lot of fun doing it, especially when I shop for items and find something I know will sell good. Plus you MUST fully inspect the clothes before buying. I know this seems a saturated market but it's not! I rarely have an unsold item in clothing. And if you can find these items in Plus sizes or Maternity, then you really hit jackpot. These clothes are hard to find in storefront retail so they go high on Ebay.
