Is Terapeak something I should look into as a beginning seller? I am just starting out and don't even have inventory yet (just finished getting my tax id, business license, and business bank account). I also didn't know if I should open an Ebay store or try another auction site. The more money I can save the better, but I also want to make sales! Any information/experienced advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

You can try terapeak's free trail period and then decide(I think it's 14 days or so).

Assuming you've gone thru all the hassle of ebay's limitations and your account is in good standing...

Regarding the EBAY store, I would suggest you look at ebay fees table to decide what suits you most, it all depands on what you sell which category you sell in, format of selling auction/fixed/store(cancelled in 2011) and number of lists you want uploaded,

Do keep in mind that a store does provide an upgraded look/features and will probably attract more buyers than a normal listing.

I would suggest you list a few items with an emphasis on the item description/picture and go from there.

@oren89: Thanks for your help :) Great advice!

@jnls4: If you're serious at selling on eBay, I think it would be a good idea to open your own store - like if you have 20+ items ready. But if you are new at selling on eBay and just want to test the waters there is no need to open one. I suggest listing a few items or if you have existing listings then keep a few of them - To drive traffic to your eBay store (that is if you will open one).

We have a recent blog about the benefits of opening an eBay store, you might want to check it out: Link hidden: Login to view

Also, Erika has written two more blogs on how to create a listing that will surely attract customers :) I think you'll find her tips helpful too!

Yeah, I think Terapeak is a good tool :) Many have recommended it and many are using it. But because it will cost you extra each month, I agree with oren89's suggestion about trying their FREE trial period. Here's the link to their free trial:

Hope this helps. All the best! :)

Yep, I agree with all above, great tool. Actually, I would think ever serious eBay business would be hooked up to Terapeak. At this point there is no doubt you would be best off taking the free trial, but wait until you're ready to pull the trigger, or the information you gain from the trial may not be current when you do jump in.

Don't overlook free tools like eBay's own Pulse, and even sites like goofbay.com. Of course they won't deliver the level of sophistication that Terapeak does, but they won't cost you anything neither.

In regards to choosing eBay over another auction site, eBay will usually be the most expensive option for sellers, but they deliver the kind of traffic that no one else does. From a business perspective, you really need to be covering as much of the market as you possibly can, so even if you are on eBay, you shouldn't discount other auctions sites out of site.

It usually comes down to cost effectiveness when trying to cover a market, but there are plenty of free listing sites out there now, all with different levels of traffic to choose from. Now they may not all prove to be successful for you, but if it's not costing you anything up front apart from your time, then what do you have to loose by covering them!

An eBay store option comes down to stock volume for me essentially. If you don't have a lot of stock to house in a store platform, then I would suggest kicking off with the standard listing frame and saving yourself the extra outlay.

If you want to make your listings stand out, then there are a range of free templates to choose from, just Google those. If you are creative with some graphics work on the PC, then of course you can always design your own.

: )
