There could be any number of reasons as to why your traffic isn't converting -- there's not really a x:y standard ratio. The reasons people don't buy a given item are at least as numerous as the reasons they do-- the only real way to know is to test and test and test, especially if you're using paid advertising via AdWords and its competition (presumably, if you're reading books about AdWords you're already familiar with the term "split testing" -- not much you can do but keep testing and keep what works.)

Hi and welcome, Mandrak1976 :)

Like Frank said there are numerous reasons to consider and there isn’t one ultimate way to get traffic. Most people use a combination of some or all of the following strategies to get more people to their site:

• Submit your product listings to Google product search (fast and free way to get more traffic) Link hidden: Login to view

• Optimize your site for the search engines. Traffic Travis a good free tool to help you do this Link hidden: Login to view

• Set up a blog on your site and create some unique and interesting content. This is also an important part of search engine optimization.

• Leverage traffic from eBay, Amazon or other auction sites. Set up an account with the username the same as your business name and list a few items at attractive prices. Put your website URL in your email signature tags and insert into template eBay emails. Set up an About Me page with photos of your business, yourself and of course, your URL.

• Use Google Adwords – although this can end up being expensive if you don’t do it properly. We recommend the free training site Link hidden: Login to view to learn more.

• Set up an email newsletter on your website. Keeping in touch with existing customers encourages repeat sales.

• Set up an affiliate program.

The link Link hidden: Login to view no longer works. Do you have an updated or maybe an alternate link for submitting your product listings to Google?

thank you all and I do appreciate the fact tha you are taking the time replying to this topic. I think the best thing to do would split-testing combine with google analitics. My concern like anybody else is, I have polished my skills with with adword world minimizing the cost, showing higher on first pages but now i am facing another challenge no sales. I tought there was some king of study saying that 1 out 100 clicks for example buy your products but there is no such math or statistics that says that; however I will not get more aggresive as far as increasing my bids.

Hi mandrak1976,

It's a bit of a challenge pinpoint as to why one's listings are not selling and others are. But here are some general tips for getting more sales:

* Work on your product photos. Good pictures convert to more sales. And statistics show that the more pictures you have, the higher the selling price. If you are selling clothing, consider getting a mannequin. For other items, purchase a photo tent. This is an easy way to get a clean, professional background for your photos. Buyers will always choose a professional picture over an amateur one.

* Make sure your item description provides LOTS of detail. Buyers like to learn as much as possible about the item before they buy. The best sellers on eBay have lengthy product descriptions to ensure the buyer isn't left with questions that might prevent them from bidding.

* Try offering faster shipping. Ship the DAY payment is received if possible. Buyers have high expectations and getting their item delivered in record time leaves a great impression. You can also offer to consolidate shipping for customers who purchase more than one item.

* A freebie sometimes works.

These tips may sound simple, but we see SO many people neglecting these things in their listings, it's just not funny. Nothing turns a buyer off like a grainy, dark photograph or a single-sentence product description.

Hope this helps, all the best!
