Will display/banner ads bring more traffic to my site?

Hello. I've sell products online via my own online. Sales are very small but have more consistent (almost one sale everyday), but this is still far from acceptable, as I am relying on this business to put food on the table. The SEO company, in addition to the work I hired them for, is suggesting display advertising and/or banner advertising. My marketing budget is already rail thing (my whole budget actually lol). Anyone have any experience/success/failure with this type of marketing solution? I sell great stuff and have an amazing site. I just need people there. And I always feel like I am one adjustment away from being successful.

Hello rvhstores,

I'm no SEO guru but I remembered I replied to a post with a similar concern as yours regarding bringing traffic to one's site but not necessarily about doing banner advertising...

There are two ways to drive traffic into your SaleHoo Stores store or any website in particular - through SEO and PPC.

SEO (search engine optimization) basically involves link building and optimizing your product pages into search engine-friendly (keywords-based) content. Basically, the more backlinks you have from other related sites, the better. I would recommend our very own Traffic Travis software. Get your free SEO software by visiting www.traffictravis.com One really great tool you can use once you have your own Traffic Travis software is the link finder tool which helps you find websites where you can put your backlinks.

PPC or Pay Per Click advertising, through Google AdWords is an affordable and highly effective way to pull more buyers to your store and Alice has a really informative blog on how you can use this tool to its optimum - Link hidden: Login to view

Another thing you might also want to do an extra effort on is how you write your product/listing titles as well as your product descriptions. Copying them off your dropshipper's site may seem like the easy and fast way to do it but will that really help bring traffic to your store as well as increase your sales? Remember that a great title helps you get more traffic, while a good description gives people the confidence to click Buy!

Hope this helps! All the best :)

There is no real cut and dry way to answer how effective banner advertising would be for you. That is more a matter of where the banner is placed, how relevant is the site that you are advertising on to your own market segment.

Of course the better matched the target site is for your banner advertising, the more potential value it offers. However, even then you have to consider position, what competition is also advertising there and what sort of click through rates the site is generating for current advertisers ....... and then measure that against cost as to what sort of ultimate potential marketing value it offers.
