Cordless Drill - Monday Market of the Week

Affordable and handy tools have greatly transformed DIY projects from a timely process into something that can be done with a flick of a switch. A handy tool that can help you drill holes instantly for your screws and hooks is the cordless drill.

But is this do-it-yourself tool a profitable niche? Let’s check the data from our very own SaleHoo Research Lab.

Sell-through Rate: Did you really find a hot niche?

For the month of December, the cordless drill has a sell-through rate of 51.46% which means we are within our target sell-through rate which is not lower than 50%.

Median End Price: Is there enough room for profit?

The median end price of a cordless drill $61.89. I found various cordless drills from our featured suppliers which costs as low as $16! Remember that we are featuring unbranded cordless drills and not the more expensive branded units.

The median end price of a cordless drill on eBay can be ambiguous because the median end price is for all listings of cordless drills which can include bulk listings that sell two or more units of cordless drills in a single listing. Plus there are various kinds and sets so these factors can skew our data.

Total Listings, Total Bids and Total Sellers: How viable is your market?

It may seem like a highly saturated niche when you see that there were 13,460 listings on eBay, but seeing that there were 46,235 bids placed certainly convinced me that there is a potential market for cordless drills!

Data Trends: Are sellers hitting their target?

Look at the highest recorded total revenue for December - $32,184.04! If you’re looking for a profitable niche the cordless drill is definitely a product to consider.

Going beyond eBay: How popular is the cordless drill online?

Can you sell these outside eBay? Let’s check using our very own free SEO software, Traffic Travis. Download your own copy by visiting

What do these numbers mean?

Traffic Travis shows us that there are 9,900 searches made globally and 5,400 searches made in the US, clearly showing people are searching for cordless drills online even outside eBay. This is the potential traffic you can direct to your online store and eBay listings.

You can not use December data alone to come up to a conclusion you are making. You need to trend data over a period of time to determine if there is a potential to capitalize on the product. cordless drills happen to be one of the top 25 "guy gifts" for xmas, so the volume of selelrs and buyers and, ultimately prices paid are highly inflated for virtually every popular gift product on ebay sold in the months of October-December.

Hello everyone, @Scott: We're sorry you felt the product being featured did not suit your liking as to the type of products you would want to sell. We have featured various other products in the previous Mondays just to give you an idea of what you can possibly sell. Finding a product with a high profit margin usually means finding a niche market. Here are some products we have found to have good profit margins: Clothing, Skin care (e.g. anti-ageing & acne treatment), Vacation-related items (swimsuits, crocs, sunblock), Homewares (towels, sheets), Accessories for electronics, Crafts & hobby items Hope this helps! @Donny: Thanks for pointing that out :) But as mentioned in our disclaimer is this for research/information purposes only. We encourage our members and subscribers to always do their own research. Please note that our Monday Market Blogs should only be taken as suggestions for possible products which will sell favorably, and should be used as a guide only. @camerman904: We're sorry to hear that you feel that way. Please note that we do not carry a catalog rather we have a directory of over 8,000 suppliers. If you need help in finding a product/supplier please feel free to contact us at Cheers :)
