Gaining widespread popularity for its claimed effects on weight loss, anti-aging and even Alzheimer’s disease, virgin coconut oil is one hot product! I've done some number crunching in the Market Research Lab and I've got proof that this is a niche market you should definitely consider.
In a hurry? Here's a quick snapshot of all the important stats you need to know about selling virgin coconut oil.
Skip to supplier details or read on for the full low-down.
According to the lab, virgin coconut oil has a success rate of 63% which is very strong indicator that the product sells well on eBay.
The other number that gets me excited is the average sale price. I did some snooping around SaleHoo supplier websites and found you can source the coconut oil for as low as $8, so with an average sale price of $18.55, this is looking good!
Often when a product sells well on eBay, it doesn't take long for every man and his dog to start selling it. That's why it's important to measure the competition rating and see how competitive a market is.
The Lab scores virgin coconut oil with a competition rating of low which is awesome news! Even though there are other people selling coconut oil, there are plenty of people bidding on it so you can be pretty confident that you will be able to make consistent sales.
We already know that you can sell coconut oil for around $18 and source it for around $8, but if you're only going to make one or two sales each month, this niche isn't much good to anyone. That's why the Lab allows you to see how many sales are made each day so that you can get some idea of how much money you can potentially make. In this case, sales numbers are modest, but steady. The highest number of sales in one day last month was 68 and the lowest was 34.
Not everyone sells on eBay, so if you are a savvy online store owner, you might be wondering if virgin coconut oil is worth selling on your store. The answer is probably yes. If it's popular on eBay, it's likely to be popular elsewhere. A great way to gauge just how popular an item is across the web is by doing a little keyword research. This tells us how many people are searching Google (and other search engines) for any particular product. If a lot of people are searching for it, obviously it's a great sign.
To do this research, I'm using Traffic Travis which is free SEO software that you can download and use yourself.
All I do is enter virgin coconut oil into Traffic Travis and click fetch to see how many people are searching for it online.
I'm pleasantly surprised by the results: 201,000 around the world have searched for coconut oil this month! This is a great sign. The results for virgin coconut oil are a little lighter with 8,100 searches. This is still a great number though and it's likely that people searching for 'virgin coconut oil' are more "qualified" buyers meaning they are more likely to buy because they really know what they want.
