Dropshipping on Amazon and its alternatives

I am planning to start a drop shipping business on Amazon. Amazon follows an "Easy Ship" service wherein orders are picked up from the seller's location by Amazon courier partners and delivered to the customer's location. At the time of registration, seller needs to specify a pick up address. However, in drop shipping, seller may be sourcing from multiple drop shippers and every time seller receives an order, the product location may be different. How to go about it? In case drop shipping business is not possible to start on Amazon due to this reason, what are the alternate marketplaces (with reasonably good traffic) to start a venture? Please advise

Hi Saurabh and welcome to the forum,

There is only one serious competitor to Amazon if you are taking traffic and that is of course eBay.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the valuable information. Does it mean that eBay is an only alternate marketplace with equivalently good traffic, I can do my drop shipping business on and Amazon is not meant for this business model?

Hi Saurabh,

I agree with Mark. Amazon and Ebay are the marketplaces that dominate. There are lots of little marketplaces attempting to compete but they don't seem to be getting any real traffic. In the long run, your own site will bring you better profits. I were starting today, I'd do both markets and my own website. The pick up feature is new, I think just in a few select places as a test. The vast majority of sales are simply shipped direct to the consumer. I hope that this helps!

I went to Banggood.com to open a drop shipper's account and they wanted a "shop url". Does that mean that they require that I have my own store? I just wanted to start by selling on Ebay and maybe Amazon. So I entered EBay.com where they asked for the shop url. It takes up to 24 hours for them to get back with the request for a Drop ship membership.

If you think to work as dropshipper, stay away Amazon. eBay is the best all the time.

As a newbie i have to say i am overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information and choices. So much so, i don't even know where to start from. One say do drop shipping here, the other says you can make a profitable business by simply drop shipping. Ultimately i guess i have to trust my gut feeling. In one of the videos i watched from Sarah, she says Salehoo costs only $67.00, she fails to mention there is an additional charge of VAT bringing the cost up to $80.

Just to clarify that SaleHoo subscription price for you, it is only $67.00, the VAT you mention is government tax. We don't include any consumption taxes like VAT or GST because different countries have different taxes and rates.
