Hi there,

I've just signed up to SaleHoo and I must say I'm very impressed with what I've found so far. My question is how can I sell to other companies as a drop shipper from home? I live in NZ and have almost completed a course in small business management, so I thought I'd give drop shipping a go to see how I'd fare lol. Any help will be much appreciated. Keep up the great work SaleHoo!!!

Hi and welcome to SaleHoo, morzey!

Wholesale drop shipping is a very popular form of product sourcing because it allows you to pay only for the items that you sell.

It works like this: You find a drop shipper and set up an account. Different drop shippers have different setups but usually you can choose to credit your account, or, you can simply leave it empty and pay for each item as you sell it. Once you've created an account, all you need to do is grab the drop shipper's provided photos and product descriptions for the items you wish to sell and list them on eBay or your website. After you make a sale and receive payment, log into your drop shipper account, select the product you have just sold and take it through the checkout and pay for it. Enter the buyer's shipping details, and the drop shipper will package it up and post it.

Basically, the big advantage of drop shipping is that the drop shipper takes all the responsibility for handling and managing stock, saving you a heck of a lot of time.

Hope that helps.

I Mostly understand drop shipping, but is it ever possible that an item is in stock when you list it for sale then once it sells it is out of stock?
Im not sure what I would do in this situation

Hi hhazen

That scenario is entirely possible with some drop shippers unfortunately, and is one of the real problem areas for drop shipping. Some of the better companies do have tighter control on their stock inventory, although I really couldn't say that it's not a possibility even with them.

I would suggest talking with perspective suppliers in regards to the issue, and see what sort of guarantees they can offer you.

Welcome to the forum hhazen :)

As fudjj said it is possible. Oftentimes, it is ideal to keep 2-3 pieces (of the product you listed from a dropshipper) in stock just to be sure you have back-up whenever your dropshipper suddenly runs out of stock.

This is where live data feed comes very handy - since it gives you live updates of your suppliers stock levels.

May be you can list products from a dropshipper that offers this feature to avoid such an awkward situation.

All the best!
