Hi,

I live in Australia and I have a website where I'm going to dropship products from different suppliers.

For example a customer is interested in 2 watches. But one of those watches is from a supplier in China, and the other watch is from my supplier in USA. So the shipping fee for each watch is going to be different.

How can organize that in my website or automate this function, in order to offer my customers the right shipping fee.

Please help me out with this, it's really important.

Thank you very much and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Juan.

Hi Juan,

This is a really good question. What is your website built on - or what ecommerce software are you using?

With most you should be able to set different shipping rates up, so you could just assign a different rate to different items.

Alternatively, you could set shipping based on the buyer's location and product weight, and just build the extra cost into the product price.

Hope that helps.

PS. Don't forget to add a profile picture so we can see your friendly face lol :)

Hi Grace,

Thank you for such a prompt response.

However I'm going to need a lit of bit more of your help please :)

My website is www.1shop-e.com it's not finished yet because well I need to clarify this topc first. By the way I'm not a designer, I had to hired one and he has no idea either about the integration of this shipping fees.

I'm going to use FEDEX and some of my providers or suppliers are:

www.chinavasion.com
www.devilwear.co.uk
www.hotbuy4u.com
www.OO.com.au
www.upco.com

In my website I have like 1000 poducts, so if changing the price for each of them is not an option much better :)

Please if you know how to help me out with this, you'll be in my prayers.

Please remember that I'm just starting with this kind of business so maybe I wouldn't understand a lot of the language or terms that you could use, but my designer should understand perfectly clear.

So please help help help :)

Thank you.

Best rgards,

Juan.

PS: What do you reckon? should I put a better photo for my profile? :)

Hi Juan,

Do you know if VirtueMart provide multi-vendor support? Unfortunately a lot of ecommerce options don't, and this does make it tricky to use multiple drop shippers.

I would get your developer to look into how other ecommerce sites do successfully offer multi-vendor support, and then look at how to incorporate it into your website.

There are lots of forum posts discussing this problem, as it is an issue for a lot of people wanting to use multiple drop shippers.

I read of this solution someone had for Zen-cart users, which may or may not be useful:

"You cannot deal with multiple shippers and multiple ship-from addresses in Zen Cart or any other cart that we know of. Here's the best way - pick a ship-from zip code from somewhere in mid-America and input that into your Configuration->Shipping/Packaging->Postal Code.

On some orders you will make a profit on your drop-shippers ship-from addresses, on others, you will lose. But it will all average out. That is what most drop ship businesses do."

Plus there is also this one:

Obviously this is a completely different shopping cart, but there may be some useful ideas here you can use on your site.

I will continue to look into this and let you know if I find anything else.

Hi Salehoh,

Thank you for that info, it looks very interesting. Have you used this Magneto platform?

Do you think the free edition should be enough?

Thank you.

Regards,

Juan.
