Hello All,

Will anybody give a newcomer some advice about dropshipping.

Im 19 years old and am seriously interested in starting a part time business.

I want to sell electronical accessories, but my main question is when I build my own website will I be able to use the suppliers product information for my site.

Any other advice about dropshipping will be much appreciated.

Hi,
I am also young and relatively new to the business, but I have had some experience with dropshipping.
Here is what I've learned.
1. Dropshipping is good for finding and testing out potential niche products, but wholesale gives you better products. It is very hard to compete with other websites and ebay businesses due to drop ship fees without wholesale prices.
2. Always test out a dropshipper before using them. I avoided a potentially big problem by doing this. I found a dropshipper, Ifuncity, that seemed to have good prices, offered free shipping and no dropship fees. They even had good reviews on salehoo. I tried to test them out and I didn't recieve the product for over 2 and a half weeks. It was poor quality as well. So always test out a dropshipper before using them.
3. You will be able to use supplier product information and pictures for a majority of dropshippers, although some will not allow it.

Hi olis-o-porium and welcome to SaleHoo. Some very solid advice from greatcustomerservice4u.

We always suggest a great place to start out is in your own home. Take a look around, gather up what you don't use anymore and start listing. It doesn't just give you the chance to generate some start-up money, but can give you an idea on what products to consider.

For example, if you have any product/s that get a lot of interest and get good money, then that could be a strong indicator that there is a good market for that product.

Cheers

Like greatcustomerservice4u mentioned some suppliers will allow you to use their product descriptions and photos while others will not. The idea of listing products straight from the drop shipper’s site to your site (or store or listing) sounds appealing, we do not recommend it. The reason being that you have absolutely no way of distinguishing yourself from the hundreds of other sellers using the same tool to sell the same products!

If your titles are the same, your pictures are the same, your description is the same, the shipping and service is the same – what is your competitive advantage? Where is your unique selling point?

You might get a couple of sales if you are lucky, but it’s not a workable model for building an ongoing profitable venture.

Welcome to SaleHoo :)

Good advice.

I found a reasonable drop-shipper & they suggested ordering a product before using as a supplier.

I am getting ready to jump in & appreciate any and all advice.

Ordering yourself any product that you are considering selling is always a great idea so you can see first hand what you will be selling, however you still other other key areas to judge a supplier on.

Their shipping time, customer service, method of contact and so on. Even then with a single order you are making judgements on a product based on a single unit. Yes, better than nothing, but getting a good one yourself never guarantees your customers of also getting good ones in the future.

Taking on Drop Shipping as a business model requires putting a lot of faith into your supplier, that's a given, but just do as much research on them in as many areas as you can to ensure that faith you are placing in them is a safe as it can possibly be.
