Federal or state tax ID needed

Hi,
I'm new to dropshipping and I read in the training here on the SaleHoo website that one should acquire a "tax ID" just in case the dropshipper requires one for you to do business with them. But when I do a Google search on "acquiring a Tax ID", I get the choices of either a "federal tax ID" or a "state tax ID". Which one should I apply for?

Any tax id will be fine Arillotta, it's just to prove you are a legal trader.

is there any troublesome with the IRS after I apply for a state tax ID ? I still can buy things and sell things regular like before right?

No issues at all, you can still purchase as before, only difference is that you will be able to open accounts with wholesales and dropshippers that require a business tax id.

Just contact your local state authority or small business group if you're unsure, they will be bale to assist you accurately.

No issues at all, you can dropship from anywhere. All you need is a supplier that ships to your customer's location. Regarding tax licenses, this is mostly for US residents buying from US suppliers only.
