Hi

I'm new to selling online but have signed up for the $1 Salehoo store. Thing is I've no idea what to sell or what's the best way to purchase items to sell.

Also I need a website logo too.

Any advice on how to proceed appreciated!!

Thanks

Alex

Welcome to SaleHoo, Alex :)

The first thing we suggest you do is decide what type of products you want to sell. Generally it's best to start selling something you are interested in because you are going to be spending a LOT of time thinking about it! Do you love fashion or movies? Perhaps you feel excited about the thought of new gadgets and technology? It's likely that there are plenty of other people who also share your interest - giving you an instant audience for your product. One idea is to jot down your interests and then make a list of products that are related to these interests (we recommend staying away from electronics to begin with as warranty issues can be complicated to manage).

Once you've thought of a couple of ideas, it's time to start researching suppliers. This is where SaleHoo comes in. Use the search box to look for the product(s) you want to sell. When you've found some suppliers who fit the bill, send them an email asking what the best possible price is that they can give you for the products you wish to buy. A small tip for you: if you buy 20+ units at a time, you should be able to negotiate a better deal. It's also a good idea to contact more than 1 supplier before you start buying to compare prices.

Hope this helps you off to a good start :)

Hi Richelle

Thanks for your response.

My main choice would have been mobile phones/iPads but I'll stay away from that as advised. Therefore, I would have to pick movies.

My worry is that there are already a number of people selling movies so is it a market worth entering into?

Also, I have tight budget so cannot be spend £500+ or so on products. Is this going to be an issue?

What about dropshipping? Is this a viable alternative?

As I live in the UK would it best to buy just films that can be played in the UK?

How do I deal with shipping to other countries? Also does the SaleHoo store covert the pries I show in pounds on my site to dollars etc when foriegn visitors look to buy products?

I already have a eBay site (no shop). Can I use this in conjunction with my site.

Sorry for the list of questions but I'm very careful about entering into such ventures unless I'm 200% sure it will generate a return in the short term/long term.

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

Glad to be of help. It perfectly fine to ask so many questions :)

My worry is that there are already a number of people selling movies so is it a market worth entering into?

Almost any market is saturated with sellers. One factor that might help you stand out from the rest is how you market your products, your pricing, customer support, shipping - these factors will greatly affect your turn over in your store!

Also, I have tight budget so cannot be spend £500+ or so on products. Is this going to be an issue? What about dropshipping? Is this a viable alternative?

Your budget should be fine to help you get started. Usually for sellers with a limited budget, dropshipping is a good option to consider. You can couple actually stocks (from wholesalers) and dropshipped stocks to help provide your customers with more products/choices.

As I live in the UK would it best to buy just films that can be played in the UK?

If UK is your sole market, then yes of course your movies should be compatible with the system being used in the UK, but if you intend to sell to customers from other countries might be best to offer various types of systems to accommodate your customers needs

How do I deal with shipping to other countries? Also does the SaleHoo store covert the pries I show in pounds on my site to dollars etc when foriegn visitors look to buy products?

If you source your products from dropshippers, they will arrange shipping for you. Otherwise you will need to provide shipping for your products, you have various options for SaleHoo Stores and may refer to this tutorial to help you set it.

As for your your currency, you can update it by adding it manually to your admin site. To add GBP, please do the following:

1. Go to Settings > Geographical Settings > Currency
2. Click on the [+Add New] button, you'll find this on the upper right corner of your admin screen
3. Fill in your Currency Title (), Code (), Symbol Left(), Decimal Places(2), Value (refer to Link hidden: Login to view for current rate) and Status (Enabled).
4. Click Save.
5. Go to Store Settings > Configuration
6. Scroll down to Local > Currency and select Great Britain Pounds to make GBP as the default currency for your store.

I already have a eBay site (no shop). Can I use this in conjunction with my site.

It would be a good way to divert traffic from eBay to your SaleHoo Stores and vice versa. You can add your eBay links in your product descriptions or mention your eBay business in your SaleHoo Store's About Us page.

Hope I have addressed your concerns adequately :) Should you require any further assistance please feel free to let us know!

Cheers

Awesome name :)

Okay. You want to use sites like eBay pulse, google keyword selector tool or even check out alibabas best seller list of amazons hot products page to see what people are actually buying. Totally different approach to seeing what people want to buy as opposed to what you want to sell - you will be surprised in most cases of the huge difference!

If you're looking for a logo check out Elance.com or odesk.com as I get all my graphics work and logos through there.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the great responses.

As i'm looking to sell either films/music or clothes in the UK I'm looking for a UK dropshipper who deals with such products.

If there's a dropshipper who is based abroad who sells UK films/music then please let me know.

I don't want to have to setup a company & tax id's etc if possible

Any suggestions appreciated.
