Hi, I hope this is the right forum for this question. I have a question regarding a Resellers License. If I sell on eBay at what point will I be required to have a Resellers License? Assuming I have access to a wholesaler who does not require a License. Also I live in the state of California. Thanks!

I'm not really sure...I just got a tax ID, also knows as ein..I don't don't think you need both, a sellers permit, tax id, or resellers license should work. At least that's from what I understand, all you need is one to legallly sell stuff and report everything you earn to IRS doing tax time.

Some websites might require you have one or two of those things though, but me, I just got the tax id cause it's free at the irs.gov website, they assign you one right away too. I'm not sure if the permit or resellers license is free or not...

Resale permit is really a state-level thing, and requirements vary depending on where you live. To my knowledge eBay does not require one at any point. Some wholesalers do, although many who ask for it will accept an TIN in lieu of it, particularly if you are selling online.

Thanks for the responses. I wasn't sure since I was reading through the Board of Equalization website. Link hidden: Login to view

It might have just confused me.
