Hi there!
I'm currently researching whether it's a good thing to get into this importing game and just wanted to talk to any Aussie members out there on how they got started, what types of things they sell, government regulations and how successful they have been.
Thanks!
Belinda

Me too!

I am just starting out myself and would love to have any advice that is on offer.

I have just started with small amounts of womens and Children's clothing just to see how they go. (early stages yet so we'll have to wait and see )

Hubby is very wary of me buying anything electrical or mobile phones PSP's etc because he thinks that they wont be Aussie compatable. If any one has any information regarding this it would be greatly appreciated.

Good Luck guys I hope it works out for ya's

Hey Balza

Not selling designer clothing yet, I need to build on my small capital first.

I am just looking out for small lots of 'nice' clothing at the moment. I call it experimenting, Hubby calls it shopping.. :D

Have you started yet?? If you have then I wish you the best of luck!

.....oh and just to be a sticky beak what have you decided to go with? :)

Hey Guys :)

About 7months ago I important about 120KGS in clothing from o/seas. I didnt have any problems with customs and they were delivered to my door within a week. I was pretty happy with this and the turn around was massive, I'm just trying to get my hands on more clothes now... any ideas? Im interested in surfwear, mainly Billabong, Rip Curl and Rusty.

Just thought i'd share that.
Kelly :)

Hi there Kel,
Yeah I'm looking at getting into surfwear too. Was your last big shipment surfwear? Where did you get them from?
I'm currently compiling a database of suppliers and am going to find ones that drop ship desinger brands and start there. Maybe even buy clothing that is cheap. See how that goes. I haven't got much capital so wanted to start out small and see how things go.
Where in Aust are you? Would love to chat more about possibly working together with all the information we find.........
Take Care

hello fellow aussies :)

I am also very new to importing, I have been selling on ebay since January this year. I just started around the house, and when I had sold all that I could I went op shopping :D I make a huge profit selling second hand clothing.

I am now trying to find a safe / trustworthy wholesaler in lingerie that will ship to Australia.

Best of luck to all of you :)

Hey Balza,

Have you had any luck finding surfwear items? I basically get offers through email but the prices aren't that good with the turn around price espically with the amount of people selling stuff on eBay. Drop me a line sometime if your interested in sharing sources etc. My email is Link hidden: Login to view :)

the only advice i can give is that you got to have dedication.

i've got heaps of stuff but i'm just too lazy to list them and i also dont have the time since i'm doing it part time.

Just gotta be dedicated and you'll do well

hehe just like the rest of u, im also in aus and starting out. right now im trying some seenheiser headphones and see how they work out on eBay.

and hey pickles, depending on the electronic its usally only the voltage that the plug uses that should be a concern, there are a number of adaptors available at electronic stores that will fix this for aus use....another thing im not sure about PSP but watch out for region coding for gameing consoles (NDS doesnt have region coding btw..plus they sell more then PSP)

Hi All,

I am from Perth and new to all of this too!, I wanted to get into selling the mobile phones and electronics but as was said previously, I have been scared that they wont be compatible in australia or come with the right equipment. I have seen so many consoles and games etc, but none of them are compatible for australia. I originally started selling my junk from around the house, and i also found that selling second hand clothes can work! A few weeks ago my husband bought a mossimo shirt from a garage sale for $1, i turned around and put it on ebay and was lucky enough to sell it for $18.50! But now after going through the house and garage sales i want to expand and import, turn it into a serious business. If anyone from Aus knows a reputable seller let us know please! :D Atleast its good to know theres heaps of other aussies on here too so we can help each other out! If anyone wants to contact me to discuss tactics my email is Link hidden: Login to view

hi there, i am new also
i've sold stuff around the house on ebay & wanted to start my own part time business
i've been looking into customs for importing & am finding it all a bit daunting,
also i am wondering whether paying for this service was worth it, becuase when i search in the suppliers, they either don't ship to australia or their stock is a bit blah or once you add shipping costs -not that cheap!
was hoping to sell stockings or lingerie or perfumes, can anyone recommend a good supplier?

Hi Guys,

I am also from Aus, and have been selling on ebay for about 6 Months. Started with 2nd hand car parts, ran out and needed more products.

The biggest problem is finding genuine products, there are so many fakes. Be carefull, and stear clear of items such as Nike, Adidas etc, buying from China...
