Anyone have any ideas on how to ship to China and to minimize the current new outrageous customs taxes they are imposing now? Wanting to ship jewelry.

Sorry...more...looking for reputable shippers that may have safe ways to insure that little items dont get 'lost' without attracting open inspections by custom officials.

Hi cinderellacari,

Can you kindly clarify - are you looking for information about shipping jewelry TO China? If so, from what country? Or would you like information about importing jewelry FROM China?

Looking forward to hear from you. :)

Hi Irene,

I'm Jeff (Cari's husband...her English is getting better..:) We're actually interested in shipping fine jewelry from USA to China. She is actually one of several moderators on a large Jade Jewelry Website of over 80,000 (and growing) active members. In addition to jade many members have been asking her to look for good deals on diamond rings as they appear to be less expensive (at the moment) than the mainland.

Because it is a new thing they are looking for lower end (1/2 carat rings) around $600-$1000 in value...at least that is what they are paying for them...to test the waters.

So we've found some jewelry...spent a few thousand for several of them but when we began investigating the shipping we discovered that the duty taxes are recently changed and quite excessive, upwards of 20%-30% of what THEY think the value is if they dont like your estimation.

We found this site tonite while researching strategies and came across a forum dialogue describing how several members are importing goods into the USA from China slipping under the radar of US Customs ( file:///C:/Users/Dr%20Jeff%20Wood/Desktop/U.S.%20Customs%20Fees%20for%20importing%20from%20China%20%C2%BB%20Importing%20&%20Customs%20%20%20SaleHoo.htm) ...so we joined in part hoping we could find similar ideas for the opposite end of the equation.

We've read of others just sending stuff and 'gambling' and most have not got caught...but I dont know...I'm not quite comfortable with blindly doing this without at least some more feedback/experiences of others dealing with this issue.

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Irene..

And yes, she is also interested in finding items from China to import to the USA (and/or other countries) including jewelry.

Thanks!

Hi Cari and Jeff,

Welcome to SaleHoo, it's great to have you guys here with us :)

Just to clarify, we do not condone the method described above. Although some of our members and suppliers do have a practice of just sending their orders as gifts to avoid paying tariff, we highly discourage this since the gamble and risk is quite high and the consequences are tough when you get caught.

China is known for their strict enforcement of rules and regulations (particularly when things are brought into their country) , so I guess following proper procedure is a must. Importing diamonds/diamond rings outside the outlined and declared way would or may classify what you are doing as smuggling, which is a BIG taboo, you might find this recently written article helpful - Link hidden: Login to view

And the outlined policies in this link should help guide you in the entire process - Link hidden: Login to view

And yes, she is also interested in finding items from China to import to the USA (and/or other countries) including jewelry.

What products are you and your wife interested in importing into the US? We would be happy to help you locate suitable suppliers.

Hope this helps. If you need anything else please don't hesitate to let us know.

Cheers :)
