New to importing - are there any extra costs?

hi im new to this import business, and id id like to know if i get bulk shipment from another country if customs will confiscate it or if there are extra costs? like if i import 6 ipods for example. and should i use fedex or dhl or whatnot?

and any tips about importing would be great!

Yes you have to pay import duty on the product. its normally 12.5% of the total cost.

yes, it could go up to 20% tho.

never report the real price your purchase will save you tons of money.

say you spend 1000 but you only report 200...

It has all the information you need to know about importing into New Zealand.

New Zealand has a Import Entry Transaction fee of NZD $22.00 (GST inclusive). This I believe is the fee you pay just to import commercially.

An Import fee may also charged. In order to determine whether import duty is applicable to imported goods, Customs considers the following:

* Tariff classification

Just another note. If you import less than NZD $1000, you only have to pay GST (12.5%). You can even get some items in without paying any duties, alot depends on what the custom officials deem as importing to sell, or importing to use.
