I am writing this post to the forum to correct what might be some misconceptions on obtaining PowerSeller status on eBay; and to let everyone know some changes to the program itself.

There seems to be an incorrect thought on how to obtain PS status.

I am stating this from personal experiences I have had on eBay.

To obtain PowerSeller status a seller must AVERAGE 1000.00 per month over a three month period. This means if a seller does 200 the first month, 800 the second month and then does 2000 the third month they would qualify for PS status.
Or if a seller does 3000 in sales at anytime they would qualify for the PS program. Even if they did it in one day.
Of course, the seller would have to meet the other reqs.

I have on two different accounts done this simply by e-mailing the PS support dept. and stating I think I may have obtained PS status. Could you check to see if this is the case.
Here is the recent response verbatum from PS support, just recently.

Dear John,

Thank you for writing to eBay in regard to your accounts PowerSeller
eligibility.

While our system has yet to automatically review accounts for the period
covering August, September and October, I have manually reviewed your
account and see that you would qualify for PowerSeller status in that
review. Rather than waiting until the automatic evaluations are
completed in mid-November, I have submitted a request to have a
PowerSeller invitation sent to you right away. You should receive that
in the next few days.

Thank you for your interest in the PowerSeller program. If you need
further assistance, please don't hesitate to reply to this email and let
us know.

Sincerely,

Ben B.

eBay Customer Support

I actually qualified in about 40 days as I did over 3000 in that period.

On my other account I qualified in 30 days. This was last January. I actually got silver status as I did some great sales in JAN.

I know this thread is getting long so I will just copy and paste the new PS rules which will help sellers get PS status even more.

Important enhancements to the PowerSeller program

Dear xxxxxxxx:

We're writing to let you know about some important enhancements to the eBay PowerSeller program--enhancements originally announced in June of 2007 at eBay Live! and taking effect in November:

* We're adding annual (12-month) sales volume as an alternate to the current 3-month requirement, which will allow many of our good sellers who do most of their business in a specific season to be included in the program.
* We're also adding 'items sold' as an alternate to the dollar sales requirement, which will extend benefits to other great sellers who do a large volume in lower priced items.

More Customer Support for Bronze:
Plus, we have great news for Bronze level sellers: If you meet the annual requirement of $12,000 or 1,200 items, you'll get FREE prioritized email support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, plus 24-hour phone support.

These enhancements are all part of our ongoing efforts to recognize, reward and provide service and support to our valued PowerSellers who play a vital role in our marketplace and in keeping buyers coming back to eBay.

To learn more about the changes to PowerSeller requirements, please visit the PowerSeller portal.

Sincerely,

The PowerSeller Team

I hope this info has helped the forum :P

Hi John (Plane)! So you mean if a member just achieve a 100 overall feedback with 100% Positive and did about, lets say 2000 in just a month, will he/she qualify to be a powerseller? Thanks for the info by the way =)

Hi
You are missing the point GRB. The other criteria must be met as well. Also your sales must top $1000+ for three consrcutive months. Here is a link to the criteria that must all be met which would constitute eligibility to the program.

So what if, lets say I just got 100 overall feedback with 100% positive and I did $1200 on August, then about $200 on September, then $3700 on October, Will I qualify to be a powerseller? Sorry guys, I ask so much question about this topic =)

Other than the recognition that comes with power seller status, are there any other benifits to obtaining power seller status?

Hey GRB
You still would not achieve the status. You must do $1000+ in each of the months, then meet the other requirements.

If your total sales average 1000 per month or 3000 over three months in whatever amount. It could be 0 first month 3000 2nd month and 0 the third month. As long as if the amount were divided by 3 and the amount were at least AVERAGED 1000 minimum per month you would qualify for PS status.

You could do 3000 in one day on August 1st and then qualify for PS status as long as you meet the other criteria-100 FB at 98%

'Other than the recognition that comes with power seller status, are there any other benifits to obtaining power seller status?'

Powerseller is good when people look at your profile to decide if they want to purchase from you.

Sales should improve at what % I don't know.

Personally, I don't care about the recognition. I want my sales to increase and I feel this helps me in that.

Not true. You DO NOT have to do 1000 in each separate month. Meaning do 1000. in August and then wait until Sept. and do another 1000 and then wait until Oct. and do another 1000. You can do it in one day.
This is the point of my post. You must do enough sales that would average at least 1000 if divided over 3 months.
I have done this twice so I know from personal experience.

Hey Planes
Thanks for the correction. You are right on both occasion. Here I was waiting for ebay to acknowledge my account as having been eligible for the PS program. I wrote them on Saturday and woke up to a Power Seller invitation letter on Monday.

I scrutinized the terms and conditions and the Math aspects of the sales were bang on target. However, as a former Math teacher, I must say that the language is quite vague. Take a look at the new wording in the updated requirement for PS status

Three Month Requirement: a minimum of $1,000 in sales or 100 items per month, for three consecutive months
Annual Requirement: a minimum of $12,000 or 1,200 items for the prior twelve months'[/list]

The word 'AVERAGE' is not there. This means that ebay is rendering that what you mention as obsolete, or they simply do not know what the hell they are doing. I fully agree with what you said but the new language changes things. I once heard in a saying in a teachers' conference 'English is the most difficult language in the world'. Ebay is testament of that saying.

    Regards
    Allan

Ebay give PS out then for NO reason they will withdraw it! You will also get emails telling you that if your current sales dont increase you'll loose the Powerseller Status - is this Ebay bullying? Or just encouraging...I tild them a few weeks ago to shove my PS I dont need it - since then my lisitngs have been fine and Ive sold over 500 items in 2 weeks.

Its just a reminder. They do it to encourage you to sell more. You now thier powersellers make them the most money. The main benifit of powerseller status is the support levels. Right now I have immediate telephone access to support staff if I ever need it. Although I really dont need them.

Are there any discounts on seller fees as you get powerseller status and move up the levels?

Yes Jim, your right, PowerSeller Support is the ONLY benefit of being a Powerseller - which is next to useless in my experience...I phoned them over a couple of issues and never got anything concrete sorted. I had to sort the issues out myself.

Its like spending

Yes it is vague. And as you know you qualified. I found this out when I when emailed the powerseller dept last january and wrote how close am I to powerseller status which was when the PS CS said well you already have and here is your invitation. This was from 40 days of sales. SO they just looked over a period of 90 days.

Im against PS support because im MY experience its crap and inconsistent - speak to several different people who cant give an answer on your issues - but want the revenue.

As ive said in previous posts Ebays Fu**ed in my view, and I'm using other avenues that I wished Id used years ago - because I would have saved money while maintining the same sales level - as a commercial decision, if you can maintain /increase sales while saving costs on your advertising YOU Must take it up or YOUR dead in the water! Surely, you can see that??

Or are you 1 on those people that's addicted to Ebay selling and like competing at the lower end of the sales chain - well if I can sell info products some where and SAVE

That is why there is beyond ebay which is your online store or your store front =) Oh by the way graham, in your case, you're probably doing pretty well because you sell info products but how about those sellers who sells like electronics? I mean I did sell some electronics on craigslist but alot of them are LOWBALLERS if you know what I mean =) Just my thought anyways...

But yet you hate eBay, and don't explore other avenues instead you complain & whine about it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming you or anyone. But there is huge life outside of eBay, and there's a huge opportunity out there too....

Its not Overstock...

Its called.... Bidville. And with uBid managing it, I guarantee the number of powersellers there now are going to triple over the time ahead....

People whom I work with are already selling out of nearly everything there, and it only means building up your feedback by a certain amount. People at about 10 FB are already doing great.

If you want to see that there is an open path here to stop the complaining, and just move on by giving eBay and so forth true competition...

PM me and don't wait. There's no reason to wait at all. There is a huge amount of people at BV already, and there will be a whole lot more.
:)
