IVE NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE MOST ASKED QUESTIONS ON THIS FORUM IS WHAT TO SELL?????? INDEED THIS IS AN ANSWER THAT WE ALL HAVE ASKED. BUT WHAT I WANT TO DO, IS OUT OF THE NORM, FORGET ABOUT DROPSHIPPERS, WHOLESALERS, SUPPLIERS ALL TOGETHER, AND JUST CONCENTRATE ON IDEAS. I KNOW THIER IS A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE IN THIS FORUM,AND IM ASKING ALL MEMBERS JUST TO TRY AND COME UP WITH ONE IDEAL. BUT AS I SAID NOT THE NORM. FOR EXAMPLE, HERES AN IDEA FOR THE FEMALE SELLERS. DID YOU KNOW THAT A COMPLETE CROSS STICH PATTER INCLUDING ALL THE SUPPLIES CAN BE PURCHASED FOR ABOUT 15.00 AND HERES THE KICK, IVE SEEN A COMPLETED FRAMED WORK SELL FOR AS HIGH AS 50.0 ON EBAY!!!!!
GUYS, ARE YOU HANDY WITH TOOLS? LIKE WOODWORKING? DID YOU KNOW THAT A SIMPLE HAND MADE BLUEJAY HOUSE SELLS FOR AS HIGH AS 30.00 SETS OF 3 WREN HOUSES FOR 50.00.
YOU SEE THESE ARE BOTH HOME SPUN PRODUCTS YOU CAN PRODUCE VERRY CHEAP AND SELL FOR A REALLY GOOD PROFIT. THATS WHERE THE REAL MONEY ON EBAY IS AT !!!! SO COME ON GUYS LETS HEAR SOME IDEALS.

You make some very good ponts dreamcatcher.......look for what you can sell closer to home before you start looking elsewhere, as suggested.......do you have skills that you can take advantage of that could open a market for you?

I like the angle, think of an idea.....if you're clueless, then jump on the merrygoround lol

THANKS FUDJJ, I JUST WANT TO GET SOME CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING HERE. I FEEL THEIR ARE ALOT OF NEW SELLERS REEKING THEIR BRAINS FOR WHAT TO SELL, AND YES WEVE ALL BEEN THERE. BUT PERSONALLY SPEAKING, I WANT TO SHRE SOME INFO.
I STARTED SELLING ON EBAY TWO YEARS AGO, I LIKE MOST NEW SELLERS, SPENT HOURS SEARCHING FOR SUPPLIERS. DROPSHIPPERS, WHOLESALERS, LIQUIDATORS, MAN !!! WITHIN A FEW DAYS I WAS MENTALY BURN OUT. SO LIKE ALOT OF NEW SELLERS I FELL FOR AN EMAIL FROM A DROPSHIPPER, DOBA, MAN THEY SUCK!!!!!!!! NOT TO SAY THEIR ARENT ANY GOOD DROPSHIPPERS OUT THERE, BECAUSE THEIR ARE A FEW REALLY GOOD ONES. BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE A TRUE DROPSHIPPER NOT A HIGH PRICED RESELLER CON. AND FOR A NEW SELLER THIS CAN BE HARD! BUT ANYWAYS, I LISTED A LOT OF DOBA PRODUCTS, ABOUT 250 IF MEMORY SERVES. NOT ONE SALE!!!! BUT ALOT OF EBAY FEES. SO I KEPT UP MY SEARCH. THEN ONE DAY WHEN I WAS JUST BEFORE GIVING UP, I WAS SEARCHING THROUG THE DIFFERENT EBAY CATOGORIES, AND SOMETHING POPED IN MY HEAD, A HOBBY, THAT I HAD LOVED AS A YOUTH BUT HAD FORGOTTEN SENCE THE DEATH OF MY FATHER, WHEN I WAS ONLY 20 YRS OLD. I AS MUCH AS I LOVED THAT HOBBY, I AVOIDED IT BECAUSE IT WAS TO PAINFUL, YOU SEE ME AND MY DAD ALWAYS DID THIS TOGETHER. SO AT HIS DEATH , I JUST DIDNT DO IT ANY MORE BECAUSE IT BROUGHT BACK TO MANY MEMORIES. IN SHORT YEARS PAST 20 TO BE EXCACT, AND I FORGOT MY CHILDHOOD HOBBY. UNTILL THE DAY I WAS SEARCHING EBAYS LISTINGS, AND LIKE A BEST FRIEND FROM CHID HOOD, IT JUST JUMPED BACK IN MY HEAD. SO I TYPED IN GOLD PAYDIRT IN EBAYS SEARCH........ AND BAM!!!!!!!!!!!! THER IT WAS!!!!! AND EVERY LISTING HAD BIDS!!!!! AND GHUESS WHAT I HAD BEEN PANNING FOR GOLD SENCE I WAS 8 YRS OLD. THEN ALL THE CREEKS, GOLD MINES, AND OPEN PITTS THAT ME AND MY FATHER HAD BEEN TO JUST CAME BACK TO ME. SO I DID A TEST I WENT TO ONE OF THE CREEK THAT ME AND MY FATHER HAD PANNED THE MOST IN MY YOUTH, AND THE YEARS HAD LEFT IT JUST AS WE LEFT IT ALL THOSE YEARS AGO. BUT AS SOON AS I GOT THERE THE MEMORIES OF MOON PIES AND PEPSI STARTED RUSHING IN, BUT I SAID POP THIS IS FOR US. I DUGG UP THREE 5LB BAGS FROM THE EXPOSED BEDROCK, TOOK THEM HOME AND TOOK MY PICS. NEXT DAY I PUT UP 3 LISTINGS IN EBAYS GOLD CONCENTRATES CATOGORIE. STARTED THE BID AT 99 CENTS FOR A SEVEN DAY AUCTION. I SOLD ALL 3 BAGS FOR OVER 40.00 PLUS SHIPPING. I GOT 3 5 STAR FEEDBACKS!!!!! THEW REST IS HISTORY. AND IF THEIR ARE ANY PROSPECTORS OUT THERE, WHO ARE ALSO NEW EBAY SELLERS, JUST TYPE IN THE WORDS GOLD PAYDIRT AND CHECK IT OUT. 2 YRS HAVE PAST AND IVE SOLD EVRY LISTING IVE LISTED!!!! YOU SEE, THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. ANY IDEAS NOW?????????

There are many that don't believe that trying to see what you best know is worth it, but I'm one that have always believed that looking at selling what you know is the best possible place to start, and your story bares out perfectly why I believe that!

Of course there will be those that don't have the history that will allow them to draw on, but it's well worth using that as a starting point before looking further afield, because once you take that route you are in for on hell of a researching program!

ONE SPECAIL TWIST THAT I ADDED TO MY GOLD PAYDIRT BUSSINESS, I DO NOT LIST ANY IN THE SUMMER. WHY? BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO PAN FOR GOLD, WILL GET OUT IN TJE SUMMER MTHS AND DO THEIR OWN PROSPECTING. OF COURSE YOU HAVE SOME WHO DO NOT LIVE IN STATES THAT HAVE GOLD DEPOSITS, OR VERRY LITTLE OF IT. THESE FOLKS WILL BUY YR ROUND. BUT FOR THE MOST PART THE BIG SALES NUMBERS ARE IN THE FALL AND WINTER . SO I NOTICED THAT ALOT OF MY FELLOW SELLERS WERE HAVING TROUBLE KEEPING THEIR LISTING UP IN THE WINTER MONTHS, SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY SOLD MOST OF THEIR SUPPLY IN THE SUMMER. AND WHO WANTS TO GET OUT IN A CREEK WHEN ITS FREEZEING OUTSIDE?????? SO, I STOPED LISTING IN THE SUMMER AND JUST SPENT THE SUMMER MTHS STOCK PILEING MY SUPPLY!!! AND WHEN MID OCT. ROLLS AROUND I START LISTING , AND WHEN ALL THE OTHER GUY ARE RUNNING OUT GHUESS WHO GETS ALL THE SALES!!!!!!!!! IN SHORT, FROM OCT TO APRIL I SELL MORE THAN MOST OF THE SELLERS SELL ALL YR.

You all are absolutely right. Everyone needs to think out of the box. I have a new granddaughter & since I know how to sew I have begun creating unique baby items. They cost me minimal $ to make but I always double my investment at least :)

THERE YOU ARE FOLKS!!!! ITS THAT KIND OF THINKING THAT SETS SOME SELLERS APART FROM THE OTHERS. EBAY IS JAMMED TO THE GILLS AND OVER SPILLING WITH THE EVERY DAY SO CALLED HOT SELLERS???? YOU CAN CHECK EBAYS [WHATS HOT:ad11cf81] SECTION AND GET A LIST OF WHATS SELLING THE MOST. BUT IF YOU RESEARC SOME OF THE PRODUCTS, YOU,LL FIND 5000 LISTINGS FOR THE SAME ITEM. SO ULESS YOU CAN GET IT AT A PRICE A LOT LOWER THAN THE OTHER SELLERS, WELL YOU JUST BECOME THE 5001 SELLER. AND THE OTHER 5000 ARE YOUR COMP. MAN I DONT LIKE THOSE ODDS!! SO JUST THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX!!!! FORGET ALL THE DROPSHIPPERS, WHOLESALERS, AND WHAT EVER ELESE THEY CHOOSE TO CALL THEMSELVES. AND LOOK WITHIN FOR SOME IDEAS. I PROMISE YOU ONCE YOU FIND ONE IT WILL BE WORTH IT!

So is it not a good thing to sell those so called 'HOT ITEMS' because it's oversaturated?? Also I agree with you all about thinking outside of the box, but I also wouldn't turn off PLANES dropshipping business because even thoough the products may be alike you still get to make them unique and personal.

HI DMGOODS,
IM DO NOT KNOW ANYYHING ABOUT PLANES DROPSHIPPING BUSSINESS, SO I REALLY DONT KNOW HOW TO ADDRESS THAT. BUT AGAIN LET ME STATE THIS, IM AM IN NO WAY SAYING THAT DROPSHIPPING IS A BAD WAY TO DO BUSSINESS . AS I SAID BEFORE IVE USED SEVERAL REALLY GOOD DROPSHIPPERS. I STILL DO ON SOME ITEMS FROM TIME TO TIME. BUT THE PROFITS ARE ALWAYS MUCH LOWER. AND THEIRS THE MISCONSECPTION AMONG NOVICE SELLERS THAT THEY CAN SELL THE PRODUCT ON EBAY, THEN USE THE BUYERS MONEY IN THEIR PAYPAL ACCOUNT TO PAY THE DROPSHIPPER TO SHIP THE ITEM THEY SOLD. NOW I DO NOT HAVE TO TELL YOU HOW THAT TURNS OUT!!!!!

AS FOR THE OTHER QUESTION, OVER KILL, IS A PROBLEM ON EBAY, BUT THE FACT I WANT TO GET ACROSS IS THIS. WHEN YOU GO TO THE [WHATS HOT:4bd13fd9] SECTION ON EBAY, YOU GET A LIST OF THE HOTTEST SELLING ITEMS. GREART RIGHT???? NOW YOU KNOW EXCACTLY WHAT TO SELL. THE PROBLEM IS, THE WHATS HOT PRODUCTS ARE HOT BECAUSE THEY ALLREADY HAVE ALOT OF LOT OF LOT!!!!! OF SELLERS SELLING THEM. AND AT WAY BETTER PRICES THAN SOMONE JUST STARTING FRESH WITH THE PRODUCT. BUT IM NOT SAYING YOU SHOULDNT TRY, IF YOU REALLY THINK YOU CAN COMPETE!!! BUT IT WILL BE A TOUGH PATH TO FOLLOW.

THE WHOLE REASON FOR THIS THREAD IS TO GET PEOPLE JUST TO FORGET THE NORM AND TRY TO GET SOME IDEAS OF THEIR OWN. NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS.

OH YEAH, AS FOR PLANES DROPSHIPPING BUSSINESS, IF IT HAS ANY THING TO DO WITH PERSONALISED PRODUCTS, I HIGHLY RECOMEND THAT. IN FACT IM LOOKING AT A FEW NOW, BUT NONE I LIKE SO FAR. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT PLANES IF THAT THE CASE.

Reading the above, maybe I could offer my services to eBay sellers to proof-read and improve the spelling and syntax of their listings. I'm sure some sellers could lift their percentage sell-through rate if their listings were written by somebody like me with excellent English language skills. LOL

Just as an aside, the idea of purchasing cross-stitch kits for $15 and selling the finished product for $50 is clearly flawed. Picasso probably purchased the materials for his masterpiece 'Weeping Woman' for less than $15. The finished product has no bearing on the cost of the materials. Selling home made crafts will never bring in true value. It could take 20-30 hours to complete one cross-stitch picture. For a selling price of $50, that's clearly nowhere near profitable. However, producing your own cross-stitch pattern and making it up into a kit to sell could be much more profitable; after all you could sell the same pattern a hundred times over.

Good thread - I think the key things that come through for me are:

1. Focus on things you know something about - even better something you have a passion for

2. Whatever you sell (even a generic line) look for ways to add either a unique twist or add value (or better - both)

Yep, you've drawn two important elements out of what has been written, at the very least, it's a good place to try and start.

HI FUDJJ, I BEG TO DIFFER OWN THAT, BUT MY GRANMOTHER COULD COMPLETE A CROSS STICH PATTERN IN ABOUT 12 HRS. AND I ALSO DISAGREE ABOUT YOUR STATEMENT THAT HOME CRAFTS WOULD BRING A PROFIT. AND IF YOU TYPE THE WORDS BIRD HOUSES IN EBAYS SEARCH, I THINK YOU WILL FIND WHAT IM SAYING TO BE TRUE. OF COURSE IM TALKING ABOUT THE HAND MADE ONES AND NOT ALL THOSE FROME SUNRISE WHOLESALE AND OTHERS. BUT DONT KNOCK IT IFYOU HAVENT TRYED IT. THATS THE PROBLEM WITH EBAY EVERYONE WANTS TO BUY IPHONES FOR 200 AND SELL FOR 400 IT WILL NOT HAPPEN !!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm. Conducting a search on eBay for bird houses and filtering the completed items by handcrafted and finished pieces, there are indeed many many listings, however there are comparatively few sales and even then the sales prices are very very small - most of the sales are between $4.99 and $16.00, with a very small percentage going a little higher. I fail to see how this could be considered a good way to make money. The workload far outweighs any benefit.

Even if a cross-stitch picture could be done in about 12 hours, if you sold the finished product for $50, that's a pretty poor hourly rate of pay - unless of course you just love doing cross-stitch while watching telly , however, it's never going to generate a stream of income that could give you a monthly payment on your mortgage or the like.

I'm not trying to kill this thread as I think it could flush out a few good ideas, however, making and selling handcrafts isn't one of them.

HI USEREXSITS.
I THINK YOU TOOK THE CROSS STICH IDEA OUT OF CONTEXT. FIRST OF ALL I WAS SAYING THAT ANYONE WHO ALREADY LOVES TO CROSS STICH, COULD ALSO MAKE SOME CASH ON THEIR FINISHED PRODUCT. YOU SEEE FOR THE CROSS STICHER, ITS A LABOR OF LOVE. AND FOR YOUR INFO, MY GRANMOTHER COULD FINISH A PATTERN IN ABOUT 12 HRS. AS FAR AS THE PATTERN IDEA, THATS A DEAD END. PATTERNS ARE A DIME A DOZEN. A FINISHED WORK IS A WORK OF ART.YOU ARE ALSO DEAD WRONG AS YOU CAN BE ABOUT HOME CRAFTS. THAT IS A MILLON DOLLAR MARKET. YOU SHOULD BRUSH ON MARKETING.

Dreamcatcher, please turn off your caps lock. I don't mean to pour retardant on your ideas. I admire your enthusiasm. I know there is money to be made from home made items if you have a hobby and love doing it. I'm just saying you can't really make living or a business out of it if you are a one man band. You would need to have some way of producing hand made items in volume to make any money on a consistent basis.

I LIKE CAPS. BUT ANYWAYS I DO SEE YOUR POINT. BUT FOR THE CRAFT PERSON EBAY IS JUST ANOTHER VENUE TO MARKET THEIR CRAFTS. AND IF YOU DONT MIND ME ASKING, DO YOU MAKE A FULL TIME INCOME ON EBAY? AGAIN IF YOU DONT MIND ANSWERING THAT.

I don't mind answering. I make my income entirely online. I don't make a fortune. I make enough to keep myself and pay my bills and the taxman. I don't have to go out of the house to work. I would rather stick a needle in my eye than work for somebody else again.

In regards to bird houses, maybe the route to go is in being a custom builder and charging more than the other sellers.

Make something unique about them and charge a 100 bucks each.

About the caps lock issue. It is actually more difficult to read. I dont read your whole post because it is difficult. I think peoples eyes are more comfortable reading regular size with ample paragraphs so the reader doesn't keep reading the same line over.
