How Did You Get Your Reseller's License

I am in the process of getting a reseller's license, and I was debating on how I should get it. I know you can get them online, but I didn't know if it would be better to get it in person. Does anyone have a preference, or a story they want to share? Thanks.

P.S. Is there a waiting time for your license? Also, how much does it usually cost to get one?

The best way I've found is to use Link hidden: Login to view to search for your state website.

Select the website for your local state government.
Then go to the business section and search for reseller tax ID (note you may need to try a few variations as the name varies a bit between states). Often the appropriate forms you need to fill in will be online, or there will at least be a contact.

As for cost, this will vary from state to state.

Hi, Using your home states local website is the best and cheapest way to get your reseller permit. You will see lots of websites offering to provide the forms and 'help' you apply for the permit for a small fee. DON'T use them. Your states form will be quite simple and only take about 5 minutes or less to fill out. In my state the cost of the permit is $15. I've not seen it higher than $25 in any state.
One thing to look for on the form is the catagory listings. Some states require different permit catagory numbers on the permit. Such as, 0123-clothing, 01234-cosmetics. You want to be sure that you select, (or click) each of the catagories that you want listed with the state. Not all states have this, but you want to check your form just in case your state does. My particular state does. You still only get one permit, but the catagory number are kept on file with the state. I was told the reason for this is that some manufactors and wholesale companies check your permit number when you apply for an account to buy from them. The state then affirms that you are permitted to buy in that catagory..Good Luck..gulfy13

In my state you can get it in person and only took about 20 minutes, the cost was $20. It has to be renewed every three years. I did not have to pick permit catagories so I guess I am not restrictedin what I can purchase here except for beer and smokes those required a lot more money for a permit.
