Might have lost my money now

I sold a game + USB camera for PS2 at around $80. I messaged the guy about a week ago asking for feedback when his item arrives and I just got a reply saying he's still waiting for it. No 'Item not recieved' claim yet but if he does one, he'll get his money back from me no matter what, won't he? I only sent it via regular postage with no tracking or anything.

From what I'm finding, looks like I'll lose my money if he puts a claim in.

Also makes me ask, since this guy paid through PayPal, he'd get his money back through them but what if someone made a claim like this but paid through Bank Deposit? How would they get their refund if they had a dispute?

Hi,

From what you said, it's only been a week? maybe there's just a slight delay in the post office or something? You didn't mention where you are and where he is located, but a week for post isn't that long. Give it more time.

I sorry, but I'm not sure how disputes are handled if it's a regualr bank transfer.

AC

First it will go to resolution center, this is when the two of you have a chance to resolve issue yourself. (It may have to be in resolution center for 10 days) If he takes it further to a dispute, you have 10 days to respond. The only way they refund his money no questions asked is if you don't respond at all. If you are in contact with paypal they will work with you. Just be 100% honest and it will probably work out. It's a long proccess so hopefully item will arrive before anything happens. I don't think he can do anything for 15 or 20 days (I'm not sure) It's been a while sinse I've delt with a dispute so info may not be 100% accurate.

You will lose without delivery confirmation - i sent the first 4 seasons of the show 21 JUMP STREET to a lady and she claimed she never got it and paypal ruled in her favor -i had a receipt from the post office showing where i paid the postage and where the item went but paypal told me i have to have DELIVERY CONFIRMATION .

The fact that there was no tracking or delivery confermation you have no way to prove that you sent the item and it was delivered. The true thing is that many buyers on ebay know this and even if they get thier item they will file a chargeback for the chance they might get thier money back and a free item.

Although your item has only been a week please allow up to 6-11 days for delivery if you sent the item parcle post

Consider this a lesson learned.

It's been 2 weeks. I said one week since I asked for feedback. I will consider it a lesson learned, unless this guy meets with an unfortunate accident.

Then again, this guy has no bad feedback and lives on the other side of Australia, it should have been delivered about a week ago by now but perhaps if it were returned to sender (for whatever reason) I'd get it back about now.

I doubt the guy is lying about not recieving it so it's probably lost in the post.

You just can't win as a seller, you either do what I do, offer cheap postage with risk of stuff like this happening, or you charge higher postage costs just to have tracking info which may deter a lot of sales because of the postage cost. PayPal and eBay already makes plenty money out of me alone, they should be paying this guy back instead of me. Especially since PayPal still owe me money from an item that I didn't recieve but couldn't get the funds from that particular seller.

Bastards.

Well the only thing you can do is get up and dust off your jeans. And climb back up on that horse and have another go.

Dont let this unfortunate event deter you. I lost several thousand dollars before I started making profits.

...but would that stop the claim? Even if they choose not to pay for the insurance, unless you had proof of delivery, they could still get their money back, couldn't they?

I mean, if you have it optional, would PayPal not refund the money to the buyer for not paying for insurance?

...and my question earlier, if someone pays me through a simple Bank Deposit, can eBay somehow still make me refund them if they say they never recieved the item?

Yeh you have a point. I'm not sure how that would work. You would think with all the money we as sellers pay ebay, they would have insurance for us for stuff like this. Could you send a copy of your receipt from the post office to paypal? Has the person filed a issue yet?

They haven't filed an issue yet but I'm sure they will because I sent another item out near where that guy lives and it got there in only 4 or so days... and I sent his out 2 weeks ago.

I don't have the receipt anymore though I don't think it would have mattered since it didn't have tracking.

Jimmy - is DEAD ON ... When i talked to the lady at PAYPAL she told me this is a scam people often do and she said she probaly did get the item-the buyer i worked with had low feedback but let the cat out of the bag that her mother had an ebay store and she let me know very quickly that if i did not have delivery confirmation i would lose - she at first tried to get me to send her half the money back (i should have done it in hindsight) i thought this was suspicious as if she didnt get the item why accept half the money back .It was a $85 lesson i learned and it will never happen again .

I just remembered about two months ago, I shipped a bow pacel post and it did take over 20 days to arrive. The lady at the post office told me to contact the post office nearest buyer and see if it ended up there somehow. I don't know if you can without receipt. Maybe have buyer check if he's honest. I just hate to see you lose out on this. I would try everything you can. I lucked out and the guy was nice about it.

Yeah, I did send an e-mail after recieving another one where he stated that he was getting worried how it's been 2 weeks now and has gotten nothing, he asked me to track it down or refund his money. I told him that I couldn't just refund the money because he said he hasn't recieved it, I told him to ring his nearest post office and see if they know anything. I haven't heard back yet (been almost 2 days since I sent it). He doesn't seem like the type of person who gets online too often.

If all else fails...

I'm going to try a tactic of getting him really pissed off and insult me somehow during the dispute process, making PayPal think that he's being a real prick so they don't refund him. Even that is a long shot but for $80, it would be worth it to try. :)

Another question, PayPal won't refund a buyer if the item sold at a price below a certain amount, right? Asking because most of the things I sell usually only reach around the $20 AUD mark.

Unfortunately paypal works more for the buyer then the seller in most cases. If you have adequate proof that you sent the package and had some form of tracking or confermation then paypal woulf fight the dispute on your behalf and most likely win. But if they dont have the proof they wont waste thier time fighting off a chargeback. If its a paypal to paypal dispute they will decide themselves who is more legit. They will also check the buyers history to see if hes had more then a few disputes on record. Anyone with a history of disputes on higer cost items willraise suspicion.

This buyer is confusing... he just sent me an e-mail saying 'Just the 1GB card missing' with a possible attachment in the e-mail (virus?). Uh, not sure what he's talking about as there was no memory card meant to go with the game.

Unless this is some sort of weird e-mail manipulation that got sent to me by some other source.
