My wife and I have been selling and buying on ebay for over 9 years and I am fed up with the way they treat sellers. I have lived through the fee increases and the other crap they impose on us including the paypal fees. But these last 2 weeks take the cake. I had a buyer who was dis-satisfied with his product so he contacted us and we offered a refund including return shipping. His response was that he wanted to be refunded and keep the product. Of course we explained that we need the product back so we can file a claim with oir supplier. He refused and since then has been sending harrassing emails to my wife. He has sent us 5 emails explaining what he was going to do agains us including having products reported as unauthorized and copywrite infringement and soforth. Then he carried out his threat and my wifes account was suspended. I called ebay and the rep said he could see what this guy was doing and re-instated. I have been on the phone with ebay several times and each time they assure me this will be taken care of. Needless to say I spent 3 hours on the phone with ebay this morning because yet again he told us he was reporting items as unauthorized and while I was on the phone with ebay (who said they could not tell me who made the report even thpugh this guy told me what he was going to do) ebay cancelled 5 of my sales that were closing today.
Ebay at this point is for the buyer and they told me he had to send us harrassing emails a number of times before they could do anything. Well low and behold this afternoon we got another email from this guy so I called ebay and they said they would send him an email asking him to stop. Oh did I mention that one of the emails that came through email messages he said that he was an ebay representative and ebay still has not done anything. I have been with ebay for 9 years and have powerseller status but they refuse to assist when me as the seller is harrassed. I'm tired of the treatment that they give their powersellers, I have heard of other horror stories and am looking for other outlets to sell thru. If they cannot protect me from someone that tells me I need to go run and hide then I need to re-evaluate my relationship with them

Hi dmdiscounts,

I'm sorry to hear about what happened. I'm pretty sure that there's a law against sending harassing emails. What this buyer is doing is wrong and there should be somewhere you can report this to aside from eBay.

If you have a look at the posts here, you will find that there are quite a lot of people who feel the same way as you do about eBay. Refusing to provide assistance to members, much more a Powerseller, is downright wrong. If you call eBay again, you might want the call to be escalated to a Resolutions Officer or a Manager who CAN do something about the situation. There should be someone who can do that within the company.

Here's a link to a list of PayPal/eBay phone numbers, direct lines and email addresses that might help:

To answer your question, there are a lot of other auction sites that you can sell on aside from eBay. You have Amazon, eBid, Bonanzle, Atomic Mall to name a few.

If you check out these posts, you will find eBay alternatives that our members recommend. You will find some reviews and feedbacks which would help you decide which auction site is for you.

Have you thought of getting your own website? eCrater.com, Zencart.com and Auctivacommerce.com offer easy and cheap ways to get your site up!

I hope that this issue will be resolved soon.

Best regards,

Hi dmdiscounts,

That is horrifying and a bit unfair. Seeing that you did offer the guy a refund and not to mention a return shipping.

I can understand your frustration and your need for another venue, we have a number of members who has also moved on from eBay or have opened seller accounts elsewhere also because of their horrifying experiences.

Here are few SaleHoo blogs on great eBay alternatives:

Looking into ecrater right now just have some questions on how to advertise the url to people because I don't know how to find the one they set up me. As to talking to a manager at ebay it is like pulling teeth. Seems no one over there really cares about the seller all the reps know how to do are follow scripts and give lip service

Hi dmdiscounts,

If you open a free online store with eCrater, your URL should be Link hidden: Login to view

Note that eBay is a huge company and that they have customer support from all over the world. Agents have KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) that they have to pass and apparently, this includes the average talktime, the number of escalations you have (and they do their best to keep these to a minimum). Sometimes the 'quality' of the call seems to be ignored. So it is important to talk to the right person who can actually help you.

Press on. You will eventually get this resolved.

All the best!
