l built my new free website with Ecwid.com. They are asking me to request for a price for my Domain name sale. l don't understand what this means. Does it mean my website is not complete without purchasing a domain name. If yes, Please can any one advice me on how to get a cheap price for a domain name.
Also are there better free websites i could use to build my free website.?

Thanks

Yes, you will need to get both a domain name and hosting for your free website. The free part is only the software that allows you to build the website itself.

A domain name is your website's address (URL) and I guess you could say that hosting is not unlike paying rent for your shop. Without hosting, you can't open the doors for business because without hosting, you don't get your store online.

Check out Go Daddy for both, domain and hosting packages are available there and are pretty close to the best prices you will find and are well supported if you need assistance.

Regarding better free website options, for e-commerce sites I think Zen Cart is always a good option to look at. Of course free website options always have their limitations, but I personally think ZC offers a good free option. That said, no idea if it is better than Ecwid as I've never used it personally or know any one else who has that could give a fair comparison between the two platforms.

Thanks for your helpful response. l have tried their website but it seems a little bit complex. l could not set up a store because there options to help me set up my store and list my items. are not available. You would have to click on the ADD button but you don't see any other option to upload pictures, describe your product and complete other settings you need to do. Do l have to purchase the Zen cart book before l can set up my store.
Please l need help.

You don't have to purchase any book, it's just an option if people want to. In fact I think there may be several books like that one available. The thing about Zen Cart is that it's kind of like its own community where developers write multiple custom add-on applications for the cart (some free, some not free) and others write guides (some free and some not free) and so on, there's also a very informative forum with plenty of helpful members there as well.

Of course it's only an option as I said, I don't know how it stacks up against Ecwid itself because I know nothing about it personally. If you feel more comfortable using what you already are and it's doing the job you need it to, then stick with it would be my advice.
