Hi I was wondering if anyone knew of decent wholesale's who sell conflict free diamonds?? My research has shown not to purchase diamonds that are sourced from area's such as; Sierra Leone, Angola, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Cote D'Lvoire (West Africa). I have found some wholesalers who don't disclose where their diamonds are sourced. I've emailed them (several times) and no response. I am aware that only about 1% of the diamond trade are actually conflict diamonds, mostly sold lose, on the blackmarket. If anybody can help I would love to hear from u :-)
The only way to avoid buying blood diamonds is to purchase only those with guarantees or proofs that it is conflict free. You can demand details about the diamonds you intend to buy, and when suppliers cannot address your concern about this, it is most likely they cannot provide this guarantee. I applaud you for your intention. It is noble to send a powerful message that we are not willing to support any industry that helps fund terror groups.
By the year 2000, businesses engaged in legitimate diamond trade in South African countries began a campaign of tracking the source or origins of all rough diamonds. This is in attempt to put to stop all blood diamond sales from the known conflict areas - Sierra Leone, Angola, Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This effort eventually resulted in a certification scheme called The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). Although this certification is not yet being fully implemented (since it requires cooperation from various government and non-government agencies, as well as countries!), it definitely is a notable international effort to rid the world of these conflict diamonds.
Should you need hep in getting in touch with the diamond suppliers to get information about their products in this line, just let me know.
All the best!
