I am very curious. How do liquidators attain their overstock items from stores? I just bought from one liquidator in California that sells 'First Quality, with tags' items. How do they get this stuff?

They buy it, that's the simple answer.

Major department stores need to turn over stock to keep the variety fresh and new, and not everything gets sold by, lets call it the use by date.

The store can't keep it because it will be out of fashion next season, so they liquidate. Companies buy truckloads of the closeout stock and then pass that on or break it down into smaller lots, pallets and so on, then offer it to the public.

OK , so that's the condensed version, but that's pretty much it in a nut shell.

Thank you. Who are these companies that buy the truckloads? Could you pass on some names? In my research, I discovered Genco. Who are some others? Do the stores sell truckloads to individuals?

Thanks.

aaacloseouts in New York are one, but they only sell by the truckload as well. Genco, as you have named here, is one of the bigger ones, if not the biggest.

RS Trading is one, Via Trading another and JD Closeouts. It really depends on the type of stock you are after as they don't all deal with the same companies.

I sell fashion loads mostly sourced through Macy's in Canada myself , and anyone can approach a company to buy surplus, no matter how big or small they are.

You will most likely need to show a line of credit, because they don't want to deal with time wasters looking for two or three cheap dressers. Each will usually have an MOQ quoter that you will have to take as well, however not all.

There is no single number you can call, I mean there is no surplus department to ring as such.........at least none that I am aware of lol

I source my products now from the business relationships I have spent years developing : )
