Here is a great way to get product fast and cheap. If you look in the newspaper under legal notices for storage unit auctions you can get alot of stuff to sell real cheap.

I attended a series of them yesterday and bought 2 units for 35 dollars each. Rented a truck to clear them out cost was about 100 dollars to rent.

I have 170 dollars invested and a garage full of merchandise. To sell at the community garage sale this weekend.

Items I have gotten in this load:

4 TVs
Queensize Orthapedic matress
Dresser
2 Nightstands
Over 100 DVDs
2 couches
Loveseat
The list goes on and on.

Now don't be suprised when your spouse comes home from work and ask why you bought all this junk. My wife did because she could not get the car in the garage. (Suprise honey). But her tune changed when one of the units I bought had about 15 trash bags full of new designer clothes with tags still on them (they were size 6 -8, her size). She cherry picked the ones she wanted and left the rest for me to list on ebay.

I will let everyone know how I did after the garage sale.

Keep it in mind, you will get alot of trash but you will get even more sellable merchandise.

Busy day ahead, Still have one more load to get from the units, take the truck back and then start getting everything ready for tomorrow. Last night I had a dream I had more clothes than I knew what to do with, mounds and mounds of clothes. Then comming out to the garage this morning I knew it was not a dream. AARH. Off to the units to see what other mysterious treasures I can find.

Great idea. Unfortunately, I have a hard time taking advantage of this, because I work a 9-5 job. I have tried o help my brother, who is a police officer, find ways of doing this. I have talked to several people that have taken advantage of this. Too bad these auctions are held during business hours.

I may try to look at other auctions as well. You can find several auctions in just about any community.

I live in a major city and we have 2 or 3 days a week where they have multi location multi unit sales a week. I took advantage of talking to several other people who were at the auctions and I can't believe how many people do this full time. One guy bought 15 units and told me he sells most on ebay and that he will sell 70 to 80% of what he bought this week by next week.

Update. It is now 11pm on Friday getting ready for the big day. The nieghbor came over to inquire about dryer sitting in my driveway. Went to his house to talk to his wife about bartering hairstyle and cut for my wife in return for the dryer. Talked her into a trade for 125 dollar hairstyle my wife normally gets for the dryer. They had friends over and they overheard that I was having a HUGE yardsale tomorrow. They came over and looked at the stuff they could see. Sold another 100 dollars tonight. Long story short my nieghbors are now having a sleepover with 4 other couples so they can see what else I have tomorrow when I get it all out.

I enjoyed reading the updates DM, lot of fun, almost felt like I was in your driveway myself there a few times lol.

Certainly sounds like it was a very positive experience all round for bith you, and your wifes hair lol.

No doubt you will be out on the trail of some other units soon, so looking forward to hearing more as it all unfolds.

I'm sure others that are reading your updates would also be considering this as a potential supply resource now, and why wouldn't they. Only thing is of course that everyone just needs top keep it all in perspective.

My understanding is that in the majority of cases you have to bid blind (bid without actually knowing what's in side), so it is a gamble. While there is golden opportunities there as you have found out, there are going to be money pits where you end up with ZIP!

Perhaps treating the resource as a long term investment would be the best way to approach it. Take the good with the bad and then see if you come out in front in 6 months time or something. I think it's a little like dealing in the surplus market. Go into that market expecting to make money straight off the bat and you can loose out big time.

Of course if someone can find a place that lists what is in the units before the bidding takes place, then that takes most of the risk out of any purchase, of course it will also most likely increase the amount you pay for it : )

Tired as all heck now. Sold most of the stuff now what I didn't sell in the yard sale my wife will take pictures and post on Craigslist and Ebay. I got a lot of large wmens closhtes and I noticed they go good on Ebay. My wife is so excited now that she wants to go to auctions with me to approve the spending of more money. She is my bank because she makes better decisions with money than me (or so she thinks).

OOPS I did it again. My wife was out of town so I went back to the storage auctions. Bought 6 units for 61 dollars. One unit was boxes up front but in the back there were 10 tower computers and 3 laptops and about 35 bins of computer parts. Needless to say my wife is happy with my purchase but feeling a little overwhelmed. Still going through the other 5 units now.

I took a loss on selling my own, but that's what happens when you have old stock sitting on the shelf for too long devaluing right in front of your eyes. Couldn't take that deal on after my past experience dealing in better halves unfortunately DM, but it was an extremely kind, and dare I say..... interesting offer :)

It's a JOKE people, don't SHOOT me, they made me say it!

This time I traded up. Bought those units and tripled my money so far without even selling the computer stuff. She complained but is happy now.

Hahahaha, nothing like seeing money coming in rather than going out to keep a spouse happy, not to mention yourself lol. Really good to see you've had a win on those units mate, I must admit that I would love to get in amongst that action.

I would drive everyone completely nuts snapping up as many as I could get my hands on, just for the sport of it lol

: )

I made a deal with her to build a shed in the back so she can have the garage back. It doesn't hurt either that when I was giving away the leftovers last night other unit bidders came over to pick up the stuff and told her about the amount of money they make buying units. Also you never know what you will get. So far I have picked up 2 units with human ashes in them. Just gave it back to the office and they contacted the funeral homes for me. I think that freaked her out.
