Dear All,

Me and my partner is considering opening a fashion boutique retail in Australia selling good quality ladies apparel in the MSRP price range of $70-$200.

Our mix of apparel would be ladies dresses, blouses, jackets, cardigans, tops and pants designed by known designer labels.

Ideally, we would love to stock brands such as:

FCUK
Armani Exchange
Elie Tahari
Ed Hardy
Lee Jeans
Billabong
Topshop
Lipsy
Zara
Kookai

Etc… you get the drift.

We don’t wish to stock low price, weak branded apparels.
We don’t wish to stock non-western influenced fashion brands.
We don't wish to stock overly expensive items such as Giorgio Armani etc.

Where and how should we start looking?
I have been through directories and have found some places… but very little.

There are countless boutique stores everywhere and they all seem to carry good mix of branded apparel, but my question is… where do they get their stock?

Thank you for your response!

One thing you should keep in mind when ordering from out of country is all the processing fees etc.

the further you are the more the cost and that will also bring up your retail cost to your customers.

find wholesalers close to you so you can buy more in quantity and make back some profit on your purchases.

you may want to source the whole salers from China i believe Sale hoo have some companies from which you can buy from.

Sourcing is the key to finding good wholesalers

I have personal friends who have clothing business but they buy from the USA then bring the goods to Canada

hope that helps.

Hi aaron655,

If you haven't, do try browsing through the forum, we have a handful of related searches about some of the brands you have listed in your post. Use the 'Search in the forum' tab on the up left side.

Also, most of these brands are not really available through wholesale as the brand owners themselves have their own list of authorized or registered dealers.

Some brand name apparel can easily be sourced through liquidations, try checking out Via Trading (Link hidden: Login to view). While others are lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time - when boutique outlets have their inventory sales. Other sellers get them directly from the official site by becoming members, they can buy these pieces at a discounted price.

Or you can also try applying for authorized dealership. Just remember to stay away from Chinese sites or else you'll just end up wasting your time and money. Please note that 9 out of 10 time branded apparel or products offered by Chinese sites are not authentic.

Cheers :)

Hi aaron655,

Take a look at this supplier. It is based in Australia but carries a specific label you might want to consider. Link hidden: Login to view

And this US based supplier has most of the brand names in your list. They can send internationally. Link hidden: Login to view

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Irene

I guess I'm looking for education on this matter as well, and you have provided me with insight. Much appreciated guys.

Irene and Richelle, liquidation sites such as viatrading and eFashionWholesale is great for the every-now-and-then moment, but I guess what I'm really after are the typical solid middlemans for the designer brands where the stock I want is always guaranteed to be there. Sort of like every other products out there.

However, I do understand that certain fashion houses would like to have only their flagship stores selling their products.

Charleen, I would like to find wholesalers close to me but it seems quite hard.

Are there reputable Chinese factories / manufacturers of branded apparels known to this community?

Richelle and Irene, are there more methods of sourcing potential distributors / suppliers of branded Apparel?

I want to hear more on people who are in the retail fashion business and the insights if possible.

Thank you.

Hi aaron 655,

In my opinion, a reliable way to get hold of genuine branded clothing at a cheaper price would be through auctions by wholesalers and companies in liquidation. You can also go direct to the flagship stores to purchase bulk of older models at heavily discounted prices. Clearance sales are also done on stocks that need to be moved out and replaced with new styles. A middle man for me would sound as someone who would do this work and pass on the supply to you, leaving you without much profit margin.

As for now I am left with this option of sharing with you another supplier for authentic brand name apparels. They are UK based and can ship internationally.

Like Richelle, I am not so confident to recommend China suppliers in bringing you genuine brand name goods. And this has been the sentiment of most members -Link hidden: Login to view

Hopefully we can get more feedbacks and insights to help you.

All the best!

Irene

Hi aaron, if you are looking for women fashion items at good prices you can have a look at Styup. Our dresses, shoes and ladies bags are produced on the very same factories of the big brands and therefore you get premium items without paying the premium.

We sell our own brand and DO NOT carry any copies whatsoever !!!!! If you place orders for a minimum of $1,500 we will give you a 30% rebate on our already unbeatable prices. Have a look at our wholesale page Link hidden: Login to view

Hi tryemout,

If you meant the suppliers recommended by Irene and Richelle, then yes, we have verified them all as authentic and providing excellent service and value for money. Styup sells their own label so you shouldn't have any problems selling their stuff as well. Wholesalerdropshipper is not a directory listed supplier and thus, has not been verified. So until he has registered as a supplier and has been cleared to sell, we do not recommend that you make a purchase from this member.

You can avoid issues with authenticity if you ask the supplier to send you a certificate of authenticity or any document or paperwork bearing a signature or seal attesting that the product is genuine and official. For luxury brands, there is usually paperwork that comes with the authentic product, or any means of demonstrating authenticity.

Just note that while all SaleHoo suppliers go through a review process to ensure they are established and safe for members to use, we cannot guarantee that our Chinese suppliers will always offer authentic brands where advertised, or that they have the distribution rights. For that reason, if you wish to purchase brand-name items, don't purchase them from Chinese suppliers. As most brand-name goods that come from China are either replicas or fakes.

You say Styup is ok to buy from as far as Authenticity and then you turn around and say not all chinese suppliers will be guaranteed authenticity. Isn't Styup in China ???????

As I've mentioned, Styup sells their own brand. If you have got the time, try and check out their website, Link hidden: Login to view you'll find that the products that they carry are all under the Styup label. We wouldn't recommend you purchase from them, had they been selling brands like Gucci, or Chanel, or other high-end brands, but they're NOT. They are selling their own brand. So as far as authenticity goes, they are selling authentic STYUP products.
