I'VE BEEN RETAILING WOMEN'S CLOTHING FOR MOST OF MY LIFE. RECENTLY I BEGAN SELLING ON EBAY. I RESEARCHED TO DEATH, THE BEST TECHNIQUES AND READ EVERYTHING I COULD GET MY HANDS ON.

EVERYTHING I READ SAID TO EMULATE POWER SELLERS & USE USEFUL KEYWORDS IN THE LISTING TITLE. I READ NOT TO USE FILLER WORDS LIKE "LOOK, SEXY, WOW..." AND GOOGLE SEARCHES WILL ALSO PICK UP YOUR AD. I WAS TAUGHT TO USE ALL THE SPACES AVAILABLE IN THE TITLE TO EXPLAIN MY LISTING PRECISELY.

HERE'S AN EXAMPLE OF ONE OF MY ADS -
"VICTORIA SECRET BIKINI TOP M SWIM SUIT PUSH UP"

I NOTICED THIS LISTING WAS NOT GETTING ANY VIEWS SO I SEARCHED FOR "VICTORIA SECRET BIKINI TOP" AND MY LISTING DID NOT SHOW UP. I CALLED EBAY AND THE FIRST REP COULD NOT EXPLAIN THIS. MY QUESTION WAS, "DOES A PERSON HAVE TO SEARCH FOR ALL THOSE WORDS TO FIND MY LISTING?" SHE COULDN'T ANSWER. SO I HUNG UP AND SEARCHED "VICTORIA SECRET BIKINI TOP" AND GOT OVER 1000 RESULTS. THEN I SEARCHED MY LISTING AD WORDS EXACTLY AND GOT MUCH FEWER RESULTS.

I CALLED EBAY AGAIN, HOPING TO GET A MORE KNOWLEDGABLE REP. SHE TOLD ME KEEPING THE LISTING TITLE SIMPLE WOULD BE BETTER FOR MY SEARCH RESULT AVERAGE.

I JUST TRIMMED ALL MY LISTINGS TO JUST THE BARE BONES OF WHAT A PERSON MAY SEARCH FOR. I TOOK OUT WORDS LIKE - "HALTER, PUSH UP, LACE BACK, BEADED, ONE SHOULDER, ....." THAT I THOUGHT BROUGHT MORE RESULTS.

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THE LISTING TITLES TO ME!!!!!

Hi dps103,

I'm no eBay expert but Erika Garnica is, having worked there for a respectable number of years :)

According to Erika, there are 5 factors that will affect your listing's visibility on eBay - Keywords, Categories and Item Specifics, Product Information, Sorting, and Best Match.

Since this topic or issue is a bit complicated I would suggest that you have a read at the blogs she wrote about Mastering eBay Search (part1 and 2) and I'm sure you find the answers you are looking for and the tips you need to help your listing become more visible on eBay :)

Hi dps103,

If you recently listed an item or revised a listing, it might not appear immediately when you search or browse. Although listings are generally searchable within 24 hours, to help make eBay a safe place to buy and sell, there are times when this might take longer.

From that link eBay also provided instruction on what to do if it’s been more than 24 hours and you still can't find your item by searching or browsing.

Hope this helps. :)
