Hey Everyone,

I founded 2 suppliers that I want to register to but they require a Tax ID.

Northlight Seasonal and Visol Products

I'm not a US resident and I don't know what to do to deal with this situation.
I read Link hidden: Login to view that If you live outside of the US, you won't need a Tax ID to purchase from a US wholesaler. - so what do I need to enter in this option?

Thank you :)
Looking forward to your answer,
Niv

Hi Niv,

It's best to first contact the suppliers and tell them you are an international customer and ask if they still require a tax id. They usually won't, but if they do, then you can use a business tax id from your own country.

Cheers

You'll really have to ask the supplier that question, each one will have different requirements. As I said, most will not require anything once they know you are not a national buyer, but it really does come down to each individual supplier as to their process.

Hi Mark,

For Australian residence, would the equivalent be an ABN?

Regards,
Heath.

Hi Heath,

Yes, an ABN would be equivalent to the US.

That said, that requirement is set for US residents to meet their tax regulations, not so much international customers because they aren't effected by US tax laws. So tell them that you are an international customer and the chances are that they will just ignore that. If they still insist, then you can provide the ABN, but I've never heard of anyone needing to ... so long as you are not a US resident.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

I'm US resident. I don't have Reseller Permit & Business License either, but I do have EIN (Employer Identification Number). Can I use EIN instead? Please advise.

Thanks!

Hi Thanh and welcome to the forum,

Wholesale suppliers will usually require more than an EIN in most cases I think you will find, but of course it never hurts to ask. It's really down to the individual supplier as to what sort of requirements they have. Dropshippers should be fine, so unless you are wanting to buy in wholesale volume, then it shouldn't be an issue for you.

If in doubt, just ask the supplier directly and they'll let you know their set requirments.

Does anyone know what would be the equivalent of tax ID here in England ?

I have just signed up to become self employed/ sole-trader and I registered with HMRC now i am waiting for a letter from them to finish the process, apparently i will get a number UTR or something like that, will i be able to use this number to purchase from wholesalers around the world ?

thanks

Hi Paolo,

As you have registered for VAT, the number you receive is your tax id. Bare in mind, if you are dealing with suppliers outsideof the VAT zone then a tax id will not be required at all in the vast majortity of cases and if for what reason the supplier still requests one, then your VAT id will surfice completely.

Cheers

Dear Mark, i've now spent almost the entire day digging Salehoo and visiting websites in search of products with no luck to be honest with you.
Most of the suppliers require a tax id which is something i don't have. As an individual living outside the US, ( i live in England) i am still waiting for what we call sole trade registration from HRMC. My guess is with that i can probably register with suppliers. But that is not the only problem, as i mentioned above i have been searching for products but there is hardly any product i can list on amazon.
Could you shed some light on my dilemma please?
Thank you

regards,
Paolo

Hi Paolo,

Where suppliers do require a tax id to open an account, all you have to do is contact them and inform them that you are an international customer, not a US resident. That requirement is for US residents, not international customers.

Now in some circumstances, you may find some suppliers still want that field completed in their online form for you to register, in which case all you have to do then is use your VAT identification number, but it serves them no purpose whatsoever.
