In the January 10th issue of AuctionBytes Update, they had asked readers to rate the eCommerce marketplaces on which they were currently selling at or had at one time or another sold at - over 1,400 sellers took the survey.

The sites reviewed and ranked were eBay, Amazon, Bonanzle, Craigslist, Etsy and 10 other sites. For the complete survey results please visit this link:

Hopefully this will help you in choosing where to start selling for 2010.

Cheers! :)

Hi Qbit_Online,

Non members will not see any supplier recommendation in the forum posts (will see 'link hidden'). You need to log on first, in the upper part click 'Member login' and everything will be fine.

Hi guys
I am looking for a place which has readymade store fronts where you add your products and possibly can have your own domain name, I want one which is not linked to Paypal seen as I was kicked out for 180 days, I want one which gets allot of advertising and so on, any suggestions?

Hi Alan,

I suggest you check out eCrater - a 100% free marketplace providing an amazing opportunity for sellers to diversify and find a whole new audience. It's both somewhere sellers can build their own ecommerce stores, and somewhere they can simply list items for sale just as they would on eBay. At eCrater, you can sell just about anything, and with their huge emphasis on sellers; it's a great place to go to get away from the eBay trap.

ioffer.com is also good, it is a professional replica goods selling and buying platform, you can try it if you are interested.

Hi
iOffer is a good site, the store is organised and so on, you can import from Ebay to them, not the other way round though, unfortunate, but, let me tell you, because of this site, i bought a Wii Console for $120 and was scammed because the seller took the money via Paypal and ran, Paypal closed my account as a risk buying or dealing in video games and putting in a claim in my second month was no good. I suppose it was maybe just unlucky one in a million, but, I am so scared of IOffer and even more of the Chinese Alibaba where I lost $4856.

PS. Have you guys checked Shopster.com, network of people and so on, for me no good because, only deliver in USA and they use only Paypal. I am from South Africa and Paypal closed my account.

Any other suggestions so welcome.

Alan

It could be, but you could always try to get to know the seller a bit more. Although with your experience of being scammed I wouldn't blame you for running away :)

Just because you see a potential scam, it doesn't make eCrater a scam site all together, there many honest sellers in there too. In fact we have members who use eCrater for their products.

Here are some simple things you can do to protect yourself when dealing with any supplier (especially those found outside of SaleHoo).

1. Run a whois check on the supplier's website to verify when it was created (it is safest to deal with suppliers who have been online at least a year), who owns the domain, and where the domain was registered (the country should match the contact details on the supplier's website). We recommend using Link hidden: Login to view (replace salehoo.com with the url of the supplier).
2. Search the SaleHoo forum for the supplier's website/company name and see what other members have to say.
3. Call the supplier's telephone numbers to ensure they are genuine.
4. Purchase a sample before bulk ordering to ensure that the item meets your expectations.
5. Watch out for sellers asking you to "safeguard" your purchase by sending your money transfer in the name of a friend or loved one, or by establishing a "test question". These actions will not protect you from a fraudulent seller.
6. Low prices do not necessarily mean fraud, but radically low prices should warrant a closer look. If a price seems to good to be true, it probably is. Ask the seller as many questions about the item's authenticity as you can before you go any further.
7. Always use a credit card or Paypal to purchase goods. These forms of payment are safe because they give you a comeback if something goes wrong. With these payment methods, you can usually have the transaction reversed fairly easily if necessary.

All the best!

You welcome, Alan!

And I did see your very similar list of resolutions/things to watch out for when sourcing products on another thread :)

All the best
