In this quick lesson, I’ll help you decide what to sell. Whether you are just getting started, or an established on retailer wanting to expand your product range, you will pick up some essential tips by watching this video.
When you join SaleHoo, you get access to some of the most amazing wholesale suppliers on the Internet, but it's not uncommon for members to scratch their heads in bewilderment when faced with such overwhelming choice!
A wise person once said that creativity requires a degree of restriction. For example, if you give someone a choice of 5 business ideas and ask them to choose the one they like best, then they will probably be able to tell you within a couple of minutes, perhaps immediately. On the other hand, if you tell someone they can start a business in any area they wish, they will probably still be making their mind up two months later!
The point is, you can make your decision a whole lot easier if you restrict your choice by setting some limitations when researching and trying to find what sells well on eBay.
Confucious once said "do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life", and I agree! Make the decision easier on yourself by limiting your choices to products related to your interests. Selling products you love is not only motivating; it is also a heck of a lot easier!
Let's say you decide to sell designer fashion because you see it sells well, although you personally have never been interested in fashion. Pretty soon, each day will become a struggle when you have to force yourself to work on something you don't enjoy. Running your business will quickly become something you dread and it's highly likely it won't succeed.
On the other hand, when you share your buyer's knowledge and passion, you'll find it a lot easier to make good business decisions because you know your market and feel excited about what you do. Do you love hockey, board games, or movies? Perhaps you feel excited about the thought of new gadgets and technology?
It's likely that there are plenty of other people who also share your interest which gives you an instant audience for your product. Write down your interests and then make a list of products that are related to these interests.
The next step is to research your ideas. There is no point selling something that thousands of other people are already selling, nor is there any point trying to get people to buy something that they don't want.
Look for niche markets that have low competition and high demand, and be prepared to continually adjust your market as the demand changes. Unfortunately you can't simply create an idea and then just sit back and watch the profits roll in. Things change so rapidly on the Internet that to be successful requires making constant tweaks and adjustments to your idea to fit changing demand.
Luckily, we've created a special piece of software to do this market research for you and keep you informed! All SaleHoo members get free access to the amazing SaleHoo research lab!
