Now I'm not one for conspiracy theories but I stumbled on to something today that is absolutely crazy. It seems, and is backed up by evidence of many buyers and sellers on ebay..that paypal, Ebay and liquidation.com are working together to resell counterfeit product to recoup losses that they have to pay back buyers under the buyer protection program who buy fakes. Many people have reported paypal is having them mail their fake product to an address called 'paypal returns' for a refund (which they still sometimes don't get), the thing about the address is that is belongs to liquidity inc owner of liquidations.com. Members have found their 'EXACT' returned fake merchandise being re-sold on liquidation.com (a couple smart members discreetly marked their stuff, and it appeared in pictures along with manifests.) Just go look on liquidation.com and see how many new designer handbags and other products they are selling. This would mean that Ebays taking listing fees for fake products..paypal is reselling them to liquidation.com to recoup their money that they sometimes give back to the buyer, and liquidation.com is re-selling them to possible ebay sellers who will then just get banned for selling them, have them confiscated and the whole process starts over. I hope this is not true but after all I have read it is looking very plausible.

here are two of the forums where it is being discussed, dont bother trying the ebay forums, every person who has tried to post about it there had their post removed. Please discuss I would like to hear other peoples input.

I found all of this stuff when I was searching google to see if liquidation.com had ever been accused of selling fakes..because I saw they were selling many many lots of 60+ brand new multiple hundred dollar per piece coach bags...it just didn't seem right that they could be selling that much new designer product when coach is nearly impossible to locate wholesale new in that quantity outside of a department store.

Edit* like this seller who has sold $22,051.00 in new coach and dooney and bourke in the last 3 months..probably retailed at over $100,000 dollars

Excellent thread, going to look at this a lot closer now, but nothing would surprise me at this point.

How stupid can paypal and Ebay be..they are currently being sued by all kinds of name brands for allowing counterfeits to be sold..and now they are now selling counterfeits themselves.

Also I really love how people are reporting this to the FBI and they say it needs to be higher than $20,000 for them to investigate. Lets see here:

Ebay: makes millions of dollars in fees off the counterfeits
Paypal: makes millions of dollar in fees off being a payment method for the counterfeits+ whatever they make selling them to liquidation.com and many times not refunding the buyer
Liquidation.com: makes hundreds of thousands selling counterfeit product as authentic

Ebay buyers: Losing hundreds of thousands buying fakes, sending them to paypal and many times not being refunded
Ebay sellers: losing hundreds of thousands having their handbags confinscated, losing the money, and having their accounts closed.

Umm hello FBI this is corporate organized crime totalling in millions of dollars..investigate.... They are worried about the mob...the mob would love to have a scam of his magnitude set up.

Doesn't suprise me whatsoever although I have never heard of paypal requesting the bag back, very strange! Seems a genuine story to me, its just a case of the pieces of the puzzle falling into place...I would love to see eBay and Paypal go down :) Does anyone know what sort of punishment they would get? would this be the end of ebay and paypal?

Probably nothing more than a slap on the wrist bevsey. With large faceless corporations it is very hard to figure out who is responsible or accountable. If this was an individual....it would be years in prison.

Oh btw I saw a youtube video, this story is confirmed as true with evidence. Go look on liquidation.com right now and look up high end handbags like Louis Vuitton. The manifests even come with the paypal dispute numbers attached to each handbag. How dumb can you be!!

Its ridiculous! Especially after eBay shut me down and cost me hundreds for selling fakes and now they are doing that themselves! I'm pretty annoyed, as I'm sure many others are? The f.b.i arn't taking it seriously? eBay and Paypal are probably the two biggest ligitimate scams in the world! It's not like they are even trying to hide it either :|

If the scam is genuine for the handbags, you can bet it will be across the board.

I tend to be cautious about these types of rumors.

Anyone can make up a story and make it appear legit.

I suggest waiting this out before we jump on the bandwagon.

But it does sound plausible they could offload their stuff on Liquidation.com.

But remember if this every were to be true and make it on the regular news it could really destroy eBay.

I tend to sway to this being a rumor at this time. A move like this would be one of criminal think and high stakes mafia like activity.

Couldn't agree more.

The story sounds good, but so do a lot of conspiracy theories. I will be taking a wait and see approach at this stage, just to make sure all the facts are out before I get too carried away.

I mean, someone wrote that the FBI would not get involved if the fraud was not over 20.000. Of course an operation of this magnitude would net in excess of that figure all up without any problems at all, so if the story were to be true, the authorities will be all over it.

Apart from the FBI part, which I confess to not having a clue if they only act on a certain limit or not, there would be plenty of smaller agencies, both federal, and local that would, or should be involved in an investigation.

I mean even the copyright holders would be jumping up and down about what is happening to these pirated fakes if it were true. The last thing they want to see are these things recirculating!

I've actually noticed on a couple of different forums that people are even starting to argue over who it was that broke this story in the first place.

The Internet is full of wonderful and interesting facts, but unfortunately you have to wade through knee deep crap before you can find them most times.

Nope, for my money it's not making enough sense at the moment. Definitely need to learn more to convince me.

Hello ALL!

I am new here at SALESHOO and so far have found it quite interesting and informative. Im sure this could happen but it seems EBAY would have more to lose than monentary loses which I am sure are tax write offs. This is just one more negative thing I have read about EBAY. I was just reading about a boy cot of ebay. I had been concidering selling on EBAY, however the more research I do the more I am thinking this is not the way to go. It is not all that it seems. I really appreciate this post. I difinitely have more research to do. If these practices are occuring, it is difinitely illegal and it is the sellers who will look bad not the true con-artist. Again, thank you for this post!

I was extremely skeptical at first also but the more I read the more evidence keeps pilling up. I mean...paypal asks you to send your confirmed counterfeit handbag to an address of one of liquidation.coms warehouse..that comes up suspicious. Then when you see hundreds of louis vouittan, Chanel, Fendi, and other $2,000-$5,000 handbags being sold new each day from that warehouse..it becomes even more suspicious. Then when you see in the manifests for those handbags it has the paypal buyer dispute number in the notes next to each handbag..I think thats a little more than coincedence

One person claimed that she found her bag that was confirmed counterfeit by LV with her pp dispute number on a manifest of one of the liquidation pallets. Im not sure how true this is and it could be someone trying to get attention, but if it is true and can be proved that an authenticated counterfeit handbag was sent to paypal and came out for resale on liquidation.coms end...there will be a lot of trouble for all 3 companies.

On the other hand I have no clue why paypal would risk something like this seeing how their parent company Ebay is being sued by everyone with a brand name right now for giving users a venue to sell fakes.
