Just got the dreaded "Payments will be held" crap on my account. Looking back over six months, I've had -0- negative feedbacks, -0- neutral feedbacks, a chargeback rate of less than 0.33% (one-third of one per cent) no disputes filed with eBay or PayPal, and most annoyingly, only about 1/3 of the volume in the PP account has anything to do with PP. I have a good bit of affiliate site income and non-eBay commerce going on, which PayPal cannot police, so all of the guidelines of freeing up payments simply don't apply to me.

I'm not opposed to a chargeback hold; that's completely standard in merchant processing. But for PP to do this, to freeze up a bunch of money that didn't come in off of credit/debit cards or ACH, to hold 100% of the money, then have the balls to call this "standard practice" in payment processing is absurd. I can float the cash for a few weeks, but it sure as hell is annoying.

As I wade through this nonsense, I can't help but wonder if there are any other multi-site processors out there. My main reason for keeping PayPal as a credit card processor is that it is easy for me to add and remove accounts, which makes adding cc processing to new/experimental sites a breeze.

Can anyone recommend any other processor that allows people to do this? I run through easily a half dozen new sites a year, most of which never pan out and get dropped, and if I could find similar capabilities at a new processor I'd drop PP in a minute, and leave them for those few customers who are paying out of balance rather than on cards.

Well, they aren't really locked down -- just have that silly 21-day hold put on the account for some reason (not sure why; they don't answer my questions and most of their guidelines on avoiding/removing a hold pertain to eBay selling, where I've had two negative feedbacks since 2001, the last one being in 2005.)

I'm less concerned about the money on account than I am about the total lack of proactive customer service at PayPal. Thanks for the link -- will check it for options.

What can I say, well done PayPal, idiots!

I think we need a new PayPal marketing theme, I'm thinking something along the lines of the old Mr Magoo theme myself.

Ohhh PayPal, you've done it again!

Lot's of green tea and happy thoughts of laying on a sun drenched tropical island, about the only thing I can suggest on getting through the time mate, with PayPal, very few other options open unfortunately!
