Alibaba - experiment with their gold suppliers

Well I've heard all the talk about how bad Alibaba is, so I decided to do a little experiment to see if it was true.

I set up a new email address, and contacted a whole bunch of Gold Suppliers (you know - the supposedly reliable ones)

Of the 30 or so Gold Suppliers I contacted, every single one of the emails I have recieved with prices worth following up so far has turned out to be a scam. Some of them involved incredibly well put together phishing websites and fake escrow services. I really couldn't believe how real some of them looked.

The wierd thing is, when I contacted the companies on Alibaba directly they had no knowledge of the scammers. What I'm really curious about is how these people got my email address. How did they know the content of my messages to the Suppliers? Do the scammers work at the companies involved? Are they intercepting mail somehow? I'd love to know.

So far I have spent many, many hours researching sellers and the only good wholesale deals I have found have been from American companies. It depresses me because I know there are much cheaper Chinese sellers out there, who are probably honest. I wish there was a way of finding them.

I've done quite a bit of business with Chinese sellers from both Alibaba and Square trade. But you have to go through a hundred to find the one honest one. But when you do it will be worth the effort.

Not all Chinese sellers are scammers. The ones that I have done business with were excellent suppliers and had great communications and some of the shipping was faster than anything I have gotten when buying within the states. But you are right in that, Alibaba does have a ton of scam sites on there.

As far as to how they get your information. It's not as safe as everyone would like us to believe. Anything that moves down a line and/or through the air is vulnerable, you just have to know how to reach out and grab it. 'Nuff said.

The truth is that: once you post info on alibaba, all the gold suppliers can see your email address.

And once you send a inquiry to one supplier, it will be send to all the suppliers that have the same kind of product.

Alibaba is not good for buyers, since this company only concern how to gain expensive membership fee from the supplier and can't get a penny from buyer.

The membership fee they charge for golden members starts from $8000 USD a year. The highest membership fee is $24,0000 USD.

So the suppliers at alibaba are their real customers. Buyers pay nothing to alibaba, so they don't care buyers. That's why it's useless to complain to alibaba if you are a buyer there.

i found my supplier on alibaba but i've also been scammed alot on there too. I finally got my supplier for Taiwan buying draw runners and selling them for a very very nice profit

Not all Chinese are bad, I agree. But it took me years to find the right few.
The right product, the right pricing, the right shipping, ...
But I did. And I sell heaps everywhere, see one of my sites (ex. eBay)

I have more then 300! products listed there.

I also have a chain of market stalls where others sell for me.

i tried the same thing with alibaba, and i received 100 emails from scammers even though i just sent enquiries to gold suppliers, its funny i was just wondering the same qustions... im also interested in the honest supplier from china... please send me a PM

From reading other posts on other sites, I came to the conclusion that one would have to visit asia and go through the government website as a US buyer to get anywhere.

If there is so much interest in this genuine supplier you have, why on earth don't you just post the name and contact details here on the thread, wouldn't that make it a little easier for everyone?

If I had a supplier I wouldn't tell anyone about them.

please can you pm me as well with suppliers, as i have been scammed many times by chinese suppliers and i don't know who to trust now.

personally I don't think these people have a contact. I think they 're baiting you .what I've done is, started my search and research for myself if I find something I will post it on this site.Don't beg any of these people for anything because they are out for self . there's enough to go around.

I got scammed from Alibaba a while back, I wasn't aware of all the fraud going on and when I posted a lead on a product I received literally hundreds of emails from suppliers. Luckily my purchase was small but I sent the money Western Union and after I didn't hear from the supplier or recieve my item I went to file a complaint on Alibaba only to find out they weren't even registered on the site! How they got my info is still a mystery untill this day, lol.

Thank you for that info, but I have a question- Why would Sellers pay the high fee to be a gold member if they were not actually wanting to sell their products? I would imagine that there are sellers out there listed that want to do business, not sure how to figure this one out... Thanks

The simple answer is that its a golden scam opportunity. Pay to get instant cred, then cream off the cash and run. I'm not saying all gold members are scammers of course, but that's the problem with these types of paid for schemes like Aibaba offer. They really offer the buyer ZERO protection at all, but offer the member paying the money complete credibility, without earning it!
