I am brand new at Salehoo, so I hope I have posted this in the correct place. (In fact this is my very first post).

I will be visiting China for leisure/pleasure (in particular Shanghai and Beijing) in a few weeks time, and I am keen to find a good supplier of Action Toys (e.g. from Pixar/Toy Story, Madagascar etc. while I am there.

I have traded on eBay for some time now (but just for my hobby of stamp collecting, or to sell items which were no longer of use to me). I have sold 137 or so items with 100% feedback rating. So I am not a stranger to eBay. I thoiught though that I would like to branch out and sell more items, and I find the idea of quality toys quite appealing.

I am keen to see samples of these items and other quality toys, so that I can arrange to bring them to Australia for sale on eBay or other platform.

Do you have any particular suppliers in Shanghai and/or Beijing that you might suggest? Now that I am retired, I would like to make a few extra dollars to supplement by super fund (and my travel).

Also, could you please point me in the right direction to find out what import tariffs etc. I might be faced with and whether I would need an ABN number.

At the moment, I am undecided whether this activity will be a "hobby", or a business. I am not sure how you can tell the difference as it will not be my only source of income.

Finally, I hesitated for ages and ages before registering as a member. I kept thinking there must be some sort of a scam here, however, all my research (and I have done lots) have suggested otherwise. I am very pleased now that I took the plunge. I feel it's money well spent.

Thank you in anticipation for your help.

PS. I edited this to include the fact that I am not interested in drop shipping. I prefer to have the items in my hot little grandma wrinkled hands before I decide to sell.

Hi Yaamba,

Welcome to SaleHoo! :)

Link hidden: Login to view is in Beijing. They have a long list of toys in their inventory. :)

This one is also in Beijing, and has action toys :) Link hidden: Login to view

China's toy city is actually at Chenghai, Shantou. With more than 1,000 suppliers in this town, this is considered as the biggest toys production base in China.

If you plan to do serious importing, getting an ABN can be handy. The Aurstralian government site says having one will make it easier for you/ businesses and all levels of government to interact. :) Link hidden: Login to view

And here's an informative article about importing from China - Link hidden: Login to view

I'll try to look further for details on tariff etc., and will update this post when I find info. :)

All the best!

Hello Irene,
thank you for the information you provided.

Re your comment about an ABN - I have indeed been considering the need for one as many wholesalers will only trade with holders of ABNs. However, when I researched articles about qualifying for an ABN I discovered that you actually have to have started your business enterprise before you are eligible. At the moment, this is not the case with me. (I also found out that there is a penalty if you apply for an ABN and are not really entitled to one under their regulations).

I am currently looking up your other links prior to my visit to China, and certainly do appreciate what you have found out for me.

My plan at the moment is a "suck it and see" approach. I thought I would buy up some products and fill my suitcases with toys, and start the "sucking" on ebay. Hopefully, by bringing back some of these toys, they might be the "samples" that I can quote (e.g. product number etc.), and then, if successful, order more from the source.

If unsuccessful, then I guess my grandchildren will benefit from extra things to play with, and/or Red Cross/Salvos could also benefit.

thanks for your help.
cheers
