Need advice on importing into the UK

hi,
i just received a question from someone on eBay asking if i ship to the UK. i have no clue how that works, do i need to run that through FedEx? are there customs laws for shipping into another country? anyway, if anyone out there can give me some info ill greatly appreciated.
