I am after some feedback from anyone who has used/or is currently using EBay stores. How does this compare to having your own independent online store?

Ebay stores are good if you want to keep your sales on ebay. And you also get a lot of ebay traffic to your store as well. You also get google search leads when buyer search for items you currently sell in your store. As far as profit potential you can actually make more if you have your own webstore. And advertise for it.

I've had an ebay store twice and in
my opinion, its a money pit!

In reality Ebay in general is a money pit.

Just my opinion!

I've evaluated just about every shopping cart. Not a big fan of ProStores. Right now I like X-cart. It's PHP based so you can easily find somebody to customize and you can buy dozens of great extensions for very little.

The best thing to do and pay nothing is
get a e-crater store. Try it and stock
with all your stuff. Promote it sit back
and see if you can get some orders. Once
you get cash flowing in than pay for a
site. Most people go out and buy a hosting
plan and get a shopping cart and don't get
any orders. They wonder what happen, well
if you don't get traffic you would sell anything.

Built it and they will come! Bullsh-t

Reality, you need to spend a ton of
money promoting, advertising etc.

What is an e-crater store? And how is it different than having your own site? Is there a fee for it?

Thanks in advance

Just a question and no disrespect here but what are you talking in the amount of $$$ (you said you need to spend a TON) on advertising.
What per month would you say that one needs to spend?
Thanks

I just opened an ebay store a few days ago. I have listed around 200 items, but no sales. Although i have had some sales from regular listings.
